I am amused. Good thing I cut off the entire rear suspension and replaced it :)

My 2005 is included. Should I wait for the notification in the mail or contact my local dealer? There's probably not much they can do right now though.

I checked the toyota recall web site and it said no remedy is available yet so i would wait about 10 business days or so.

That being said, we know what the remedy will probably be....they'll just put the same leafs on for us that come on the 2012-15s

    Edit: THANK YOU ROB

There are a number of issues here.

First, the possibility of puncturing the gas tank and related results.

Second, The broken leaf may just let go and drop - to the dismay of the vehicles behind you. Even being left in the interstate is cause for a serious blowout/accident.

Third, Toyota basically acknowledges there is a problem with the springs in the current recall and therefore taking some owner ship of the fixes and possible outcomes.

Fourth, With defective/cracked/missing leafs it definitely will affect load capacity, handling and resulting safety issues.

I find it had to believe that Toyota will do nothing more than band aid the issue to, perhaps temporarily, and just resolve just the First issue. With that said, I think Toyota has issued the recall ASAP to quickly start the repair process to include known/existing problem leafs/vehicle years. They very well may find later years that need to be repaired as well and adjust the recall as needed.

To me, the springs, at a min., need to be correctly repaired for safety issues. (i.e. change bad leafs (which does not fix possible later leaf issues), or change the whole assembly.

    JMHO

I think you "nailed" it, if you are expecting new leafs, I wouldn't get my hopes up, it will be a quick easy fix, not unlike the accelerator "cut"

They aren't going to clamp the springs if the springs are prone to fracturing. They will replace them.

My 2008 is included, but I had the tsb done 6 years back. Can only wait and see what happens. I'll be going to the dealer in another 1000 miles and I'll talk to the service department.

Automobiles are very intricate machines which will inevitably have problems. The fact that they are doing this voluntarily/proactively actually improves my view of Toyota.

Anyone know if this includes Canadian Tacomas that already came with the 4 leaf pack?

Did anyone else read this part?

So the squatty body owners will have broken leaf springs, but because it doesn't appear to pose a threat to the gas tank, it's ok. Nice, Toyota...nice.

I'm hoping the remedy is available soon. I figure then they can just do that when they do my frame replacement. Jeez, at this point, toyota should just give me a whole new truck. lol.

I entered my vin in the canadian recall website. It shows the 173 one for the rusting frames but nothing about the leaf springs.

I have an 07 DCLB TRD Sport, so it should be.
