This. It is basically covering the inner tie rod as well.

It has nothing to do with the inner tie rod.
That is, if he talking about the umbrella shaped rubber part directly under the vise grips in this pic.

Also fits the 3.4 and the 4.0. On my 3.4 the D3 is close/rubs the oil cooler hose so I use the D1.
Originally I wanted to "stock" just one filter (D3) for my 3.4 and 4.0.

Just happen to have a handy pic.

Do you know if i can undo those bolts, disassemble, then re-install everything? I would be surprised if i had to take off the whole rack and pinion set up

A complete rebuild as shown in the links aren't necessary but can be better for you in the long run if you're taking the s/c off anyways. Depends how many miles you got on it, etc.
A simple oil change is just a matter of taking off the nose cone which should be a walk in the park.

And happy 1000 posts to me.

No need to remove the R+P.

Heck, pretty much any filter with a 3/4" 16TPI will fit, with in space limitations. I studied up on this once when considering a remote filter set up.

Yea, I was tired of it on my 1st change at 500 miles and yes on the additional POFs. I had it all sorted out with SS braid hose and AN fittings but kept reading about leaky this or that and hit and miss quality on the adapters.
So, at my second change I made up a drip catcher for the filter and convinced myself that pulling the skid plate for an oil change was just part of good off road PM to otherwise "inspect things".

The little notches in the flattened edge of the funnel are for the lip of the oil pan. The whole thing wedges between the pan and diff. All that is required is a single wipe of the dribble from the filter mount. Something no baggie will ever catch.
For my money, there is just too much wheeling to be done.

No. I wish! I still need to learn to weld. I had my friend who made my front bumper, wrap arounds on my rear bumper, and rock rails make it.

That cage looks sweet, no gussets... But most likely better than mine (none lol) Is it at least tied into the frame in a few spots?
