My 08 reg cab prerunner shows up in the recall. Funny thing, I have a 4 leaf pack off a 2012 with 5k miles on them on the floor in the garage waiting to go on the truck. Now they will stay there and I will allow Toyota to replace the sad ass 3 pack themselves if that is what recall turns out to be. If not, then I will go with the ones on hand..............

Yeah, I have a set of Dakars waiting to go on, but now I'm curious if I can get a new leaf pack swapped in first. Or hardware, or whatever the fix is. If it's a stupid fix, then I'll pass on it and do my planned suspension.

Talked with the guys at the dealership this morning. With the recall just being announced yesterday there really isn't anymore details on it since they're still figuring a way to remedy it. With that being the case it be a few months until we find out anymore info or get letters in the mail. Toyota won't start sending letters out until they have a remedy an all dealerships are stocked with the parts needed to fix the recall.

I really can't see them passing out new leaf packs, it'll probably be a gas tank barrier plate or some fix similar to sawing off the bottom of the gas pedal...

I don't think they wait for the parts. The last two recalls I have had done (clock spring, and now this frame replacement) they have had to order the parts both times.

Like I said before, I wouldn't hold my breath on this. I didn't get my letter for the silly "cut an inch off your gas pedal, sir?" recall until months after it had been announced. I mean, come on, it's not like Tacomas are throwing leafs, puncturing gas tanks and blowing up on a daily basis. Only a few of the thousands of member here have even mentioned broken leafs. I've seen them on habitually overloaded Chevy and Ford grain trucks and once on a Chevy pickup truck but I've never had any leaf break with any of my Toyotas over the past 35 years. My nine-year old '06's springs might break tomorrow but I wouldn't bet on it. If it was such a major problem I'd have thought they would have broken by now.

Everyone wants to get something for free. If you think the Tacoma's rear suspension is crappy then why should you think that a recall replacement would be any less crappy? If you want a better suspension then replace or modify it, don't wait for a recall. The only reason that I would even think of contacting Toyota early on this would be if I already had a broken leaf.

Of course it will vary dealer to dealer. When I did my clock spring, it was in stock. Only took a few minutes to replace. In fact, one of the members here, Jason aka Toyota Tech31, did the work.

I've only seen 1 leaf break in person and that was in Moab on a 1st gen running a chevy 63 swap that have virtually no bump stop. He jumped it and the main leaf on one side was all sorts of fucked up. Later the next day on the trail the leaf broke off... There's a reason why people run fairly tall bumps on SOA setups.

I must have a good year Tacoma (2006) as this is the only real recall it has on it. It's funny that the later models had more recalls.

If the other recalls have been fixed they won't show up anymore. I know all 05's to at least 09's had the gas pedal chop recall.

That's just what the tech at the dealership told me.

True. Like I said earlier, I inquired about it just to see if they had any insight since I was already there to have my wife's 5K mile service done. I've been wanting to upgrade my leaf pack for a while for now but haven't due to funds. I was just wondering if they're would be any reimbursement incentives if i replaced mine already, like cut a check for the amount of the recall fix to put towards the new leaf pack or something. I know it would be like a .0001% chance of that actually happening though. Just thought I'd ask them since I was already there

So is mine. The title of the recall says "rear leaf spring" as in one? I wonder if they are only addressing the one side?

So many assumptions, just wait and see if it's worth taking your truck in.

Everyone seems to be jumping the gun on this. I really doubt we'll get new springs, as some have already stated, but should be more than just bailing wire.
