I am sure you could. I am not a pro on this stuff just educated myself over the last couple weeks so don't take anything I say as the exact right way. However you can see on this thread there is chart (scroll down) and it lets you know how big wire you need to run the amps that our winches can/will pull, for the amount of feet or inches you want. I wanted to make sure I had big enough wires in case it does pull the larger (higher end) of the specs for these winchs. They can get up to 400-450 amps and even though I might not put that much strain on it I would like to have the comfort knowing my truck wires don't burn up or catch on fire if I ever do pull that many amps. That being said if you scroll to the 400/450 amp column you can see what size wire you would need for the length you want to run.

    hope this helps!

oh btw when hooking mine up the wires got shorted (long story) but when I went to hook up the + there were such powerful spark it looked like I was welding in my engine bay. It literally blew chucks of metal off the terminals and the connectors. I just kept thinking I would hate for my wires to melt or something like that happen from me not having thick enough wire to let all the amps through.

I will be getting a fire extinguisher in my truck pretty soon because that was actually pretty scary lol

Lmao that would be funny to see. Let me know what kind of fairlead you are looking at getting. Trying to find me a black hawed lead that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

yeah I have seen those. The first one I don't like the polished part (or at least the logo)

that warn one has horrible reviews, it should not be used with rope only wire/cable cause it is too rough and cutting peoples rope.

I def want a thimble from prolink but they are pretty pricey.

I really want one of these fairleads from Viking and will prob get one but they are a little $$ for what they are. Just still looking as of now.

Haha. I think im going to go factor 55 1.5 because its designed for synthetic and has a larger surface to spread the resistance. Plus it will match the prolink I will get later on.

that does sound like a plan since i will get one too later on. Might even throw the smitty fairlead on the inside and run a longer bolt through both for smooooooooth roping action!

I had the fairlead that came with the winch powder-coated locally for 20 bucks. He actually ended up not even charging me since I'd done some other stuff with him and his guys took two weeks to get it done. I'll post up pics later when I get it all installed.

I was thinking of doing that too. Was worried about the friction of the line wearing it off though. Did you get it high gloss?

Its probably high gloss, but not really sure. They called the color "emergency red" so we'll see. My truck is black and came with the red TRD emblem and red coils up front. I've kind of embraced it even though I didn't really want a black truck. The winch mount is a flat black with no texture so the red should stand out. I also did my Tacoma emblems in the same red a while back.

If it does wear off, its just going to be where the line runs. I figured the rest would stay red and the wear marks might look kinda cool, like battle scars. :)

True, well I guess this could be an option for me again. I figured they would charge about $20 to powdercoat it.

That is what I really want. I didn't know you could have it done though. Not even sure where to begin looking.
