People in inner cities can mob up and go crazy in no time flat. I went on a run once where a girl had been stabbed by her "boyfriend." Did it matter that we were actually trying to help people? Nope, we had uniforms and badges and that was enough to turn the crowd against us. It was just fortunate that I had to track the girl down to the other side of the block by the blood trail she left. When I found her and looked back, the crowd was trying to turn over the ambulance. The cop I was with called in a private transport so I could get the girl to the hospital. She had lost so much blood that she literally was pale gray.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to harvest enough wild buffalo to keep my strength up enough to find some fertile ground to clear and turn into an agriculturally fruitful farm land.

yes because those are the only places that exist in those entire cities. can't wait to see the jammed roads with all the survivalists fighting to find a patch of empty land... i'm all for being prepared for natural disaster, keeping water, food, batteries, etc. I do that... buying into the fox news crap of the world coming to an end... well, i'm not going to spend my life worrying about that, i'll live my life today. a lof of preppers live today just preparing for the tomorrow that never happens.

So what's your plan? I see you live in So Cal; should be fun trying to survive there if SHTF, since California's one of the most heavily populated places in the US, it's in a perpetual state of drought, and a lot of the water it does have gets pumped in from out of state.

Why has this thread become so hostile? Can't we all just get along? :dancingbacon:

Hm. Not trying to be hostile, just curious. Although, I just reread my post and realized that it could be misconstrued as hostile.

Not trying to be hostile! Genuinely want to know what your plan would be!

Definitely not entirely directed at your post - just saw some hostility a page or two ago. :D

My absolute first plan is to bug in also. Even though I'm in an apartment and one might think it's not an ideal situation, our building is incredibly secure and our walls, with the exception of three interior walls, are solid concrete. Should isolate noise incredibly well and is of course secure.

I also have an on-site storage unit in the building next door where I keep the majority of my non-perishable stuff - food rations, water, etc. I can get to it 24/7 and it's secured.

I know for a fact I will do 100x better bugging in, compared to bugging out.

It would take a LOT to get me to flee my home in the event of a SHTF situation.

One good idea concerning survival food is to stockpile it but then live off it. In this way it both stays fresh and gets you used to eating it. Having fresh survival rations is important. Also, don't presume that you can live off the land, even if trained and equipped to do so.

I used to carry around a large tin of government-issue stew behind the seat of my truck for "emergency purposes." While going TDY in the Army, I got a chance to have a week off before reporting so I and another soldier decided to canoe the Sabine River from Toledo Bend to Sabine Lake. I'm not sure what we were thinking since we only brought along water, no food. I did have fishing gear and a .22 and tossed in my "emergency" ration just in case. The river was floody and muddy and we couldn't catch a single fish. After a day I popped open the can of stew, only to find it rotten. A day later I saw a chicken that was pecking along on the bank and thought about bagging it but then saw a nearby farmhouse. The next day we got to "civilization" pretty hungry indeed.

Other times I've had better luck living off the land. I went out for a week once on foot but I'd planned the trip during hunting season and the route to hit some stocked ponds. I bagged a turkey and several bass. I also made up a sort of "bread" using milo and cattail roots which wasn't too bad. The turkey was the best -- fresh turkey roasted over a campfire -- yum!

I have 6k+ gals of water sitting in my backyard. Bugging in as well.

I would see how everything unfolds over the next few days and the communication I have with friends nearby. Coordinate a bug out to a place we are familiar with, with friendly people as a group.

The more you know. Hey, maybe the Ebola Zombies are real and they plan on doing a lot of cardio. Google it, kind of frightening.

This is my biggest concern with this fiasco. When it begins spreading throughout the major metropolitan areas of the continental U.S. things are going to quickly run off the rails. Might be a long winter boys. Let's hope not.
