Perhaps the timing is out just slightly. Not enough to make the engine run rough but just enough so now you're getting worse MPG. That's where I would start.

Yep I do. But I've had it for weeks before getting the work done and I was still getting decent mileage. Hell, I got 20mpg on my big trip right after the work was done. Then I drove 150 miles on the highway with maybe 10 offroad and got 12 on that trip...cruising at 60-65 on flat highway with no wind my ultra gauge is showing 13mpg.

I'm not worried about mileage, I just thought it was odd how sudden the drop was. I was mainly worried about taking it back to Toyota if it's something they may have done wrong on the timing. I didn't lift it, add a bumper, RTT, and awning expecting to get 20mpg lol.

I'm goin to take off my awning to see how much that effected it because that was added just recently as well.

I asked my guy and he said you only have to heat treat it if you use 4130 weld rod. He used er80sb2 so no need for heat treating. and that thats what all trophy trucks use. and heat treating is mainly used in the aerospace field

 

I never looked into a roll cage or built one. But a roll age is built for strength and protection. And aerospace sounds a butt ton tougher then Baja stuff which sounds like it's strong enough but light weight. But that's just IMO

 

Not sure if AK does like Washington, but I noticed significant drop in MPG recently. It could be the switch to winter blend of added ethanol in fuel. They mandate it here and MPGs are definitely effected.

 

Like I said never built one or looked into them. But thanks I learn something new every day (no sarcasm)

 

I lost 3mpgs just from putting my Hellas on the roof.
3-5 seems right for a RTT. It's a HUGE air drag.

Yeah for sure. I was expecting a huge drop, just didn't think it'd be that big after getting 20mpg initially. Oh well. Bigger tires soon won't help either haha. But I'm sure you already knew that...

 

If you are just reading it off an ultra gauge it takes awhile anyways.

Completely stock, I'd be sitting at 15mpg driving across west Texas in a head wind. Your drop is not unreasonable with all the extra weight but I'd keep an eye on it and do the little things that help.
