Yeah I'm striving to do everything right the first time though. It sucks finding things out the hard way.

What part in particular? The oil pan? Header install?

The crossover pipe slid straight out. Taking everything else out is what took most of the time

Damn... Im going to put aside two days to get it done. There is a local shop that specializes in turbos but I don't want to invest any more money than I have to. I plan to do the oil pan before the install; eat the elephant in small bites.

How are you going to do that? Just drain the oil then weld the fitting to the outside?

I got an oil pan on ebay for $30. Gonna clean it and weld it up then swap the two pans

Oh nice. I don't think it will be as hard for you since you're truck has 5 less years of seizing in the bolts. Drench everything in wd40 and you'll be fine.

That's what I did. I'm running around with the oil pan w/ fitting installed, and a cap on the end of it until I'm ready for the turbo.

Agree on the eating the elephant in small bits.

I ordered two SS 2.5" Vband gaskets from ebay and caked both sides with that copper maximum temp gasket maker when I installed the headers. I suggest both of you do the same.

Im not done with the charge pipes by any means but I hooked them up with what I had and the lengths of the pipe were already correct enough to hook up and get boost for now. I'm not going to keep the MAF right behind a bend and I'd rather use 2.5 pipe for the top horizontal piece than that 3" but my truck totally stalled using 2.5 and the 90 degree elbow right before the MAF. It idled OK with this 3". I drove it around for a while testing it out and tried a 0-60 pull. Probably literally 500lbs of extra weight or more in the camper shell + all my junk and my back tires wouldn't get a grip until 2nd gear. A solid 8 seconds.
I'll bet any money with no extra weight and in 4wd it would do it in 6.5-7 seconds easy with the stock tune and 5 psi (that's all I'm getting still). The spool is amazing and the lag is almost non-existent. Very impressed to say the least. AFR is at 15 full boost full throttle... not going to be stupid with it but it's not so lean that engine damage is inevitable.
I've decided that I'm going to stay at 6-8 psi (im still getting an FIC to battle leaning out under boost). I know a lot of other people get greedy and want more and more but honestly this is amazing enough for my standards. I assume 300 WHP is where I'm going be at and stay at when all is said and done.

Lol that's what I looked like on the first test drive. 1st gear is a beast now.

Umm, yes it is... 15 is very bad. I would keep out of boost until you get AFR's down into the 11's at full boost/throttle... :notsure:

Na it's not so bad. 5vz's see leaning like that for 200k miles all the time with the S/C and no fuel mods. It's not healthy by any means but with a bottle of octane booster and a splash of 110 race gas every tank I'll be ok until I get the AIC light(ish) on the pedal. After all I'm running the same boost pressure as I have been for the last year with the rear mount setup that wasn't intercooled.

I might have missed it, but what Garrett turbo are you running? Must be smaller than my Holset if you are having traction problems in 1st gear. Open diff? Sounds like a lot of fun. Snag a video when you can.

So is it necessary to dyno tune a truck with your setup? Or is it possible to just tune it on the street with something like the map-ecu3?

Yeah I'm not going to bother getting it dyno'd. Doesn't really accomplish much besides getting exited over HP and TQ numbers, especially since we can't edit the fuel maps on our ECUs. I'm going to get an AEM FIC and just add fuel where it's needed. The stock setup can handle 400 HP if you fuel it correctly.

Gio, could you do me a huge favor? I'm planning out my intake since I'm building it myself instead of going with the kit (not using an intercooler). Could you take some "birds eye" pictures under the good? Basically with the camera directly above the turbo so that I can see exactly where the turbo is in relation to the throttle body. Big thanks in advance.
