    Get ready to have a lot more off road enthusiasts join the Toyota bandwagon; Jeep is considering unibody design, smaller engines, more gears in the trans, and a fully aluminum body on the 2017 Jeep Wrangler.

    Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne said;

    "Such significant changes to the hot-selling SUV would likely mean leaving its longtime, historic production site in Toledo, Ohio"

    In his strongest comments to date about Fiat Chrysler’s future plans for the Wrangler, Marchionnne (CEO) hinted strongly the next-generation version is likely to be fundamentally different from the venerable off-roader available today.

    The next Wrangler, due in 2017, has to lose weight and be powered by smaller engines than its current 3.6-liter V-6 engine in order to help Fiat Chrysler meet stricter U.S. fuel economy rules.

    I'm sure this means that we will have lots of Wrangler fans move over to the Taco, 4runner, Landcruiser, and Tundra markets. Not to mention all the off road Lexus models too. I hope Toyota sticks with their recent designs for the off road market!

    Finally something that will further aid my discussion with my fiance to not get a Jeep in the future! (She wants a rubicon :rolleyes:)

    Maybe I can persuade her to a 4Runner or FJ...

    I stopped looking at anything Chrysler when it was purchased by Fiat. Although, not going to lie, would love a Challenger SRT Hellcat (707 hp)

    I agree. Chrystler is done in my book. And now that cummins will be in other trucks, dodge trucks are done in my book too.

    If anything, all of the current and older Wrangler values just went up. Not like they ever had low re-sale though, I think the Wrangler runs neck & neck with the Tacoma in that dept.

    I highly doubt it. You can't compare a jeep to any of the vehicles you listed above.

    As it currently is, no. But when the Wrangler becomes a unibody, aluminum soft-roader?

    I believe the Wrangler is #1 in resale value and Tacoma is #2. Why the Wrangler has such great resale I'll never understand...

    EDIT: Actually, looks like the FJ is #1, Tacoma is #2, Wrangler is #3 on most lists.

    For pure offroad Jeeps are pretty bad ass. But when it comes to pavement, they are loud and pretty uncomfortable.

    I've been lurking, have to admit. It was a bone stock little 4 banger for about two weeks after I bought it.

    Yeah, it's been through a few different stages in it's life. Was my daily driver from when I bought it 16 years ago until about 2010. Lived in it for about 4 months with my Husky Kyuss, that was pretty fun.

    Not so bad being a single seater. Laid out some couch cushions from the fuel cell to the firewall. Pretty comfy actually.
