SCORE has always been stateside... Mickey Thompson created it for grandstand viewing. Off Road racing was mostly viewed by snakes and lizards in the point to point or loop format out in the desert and mountains of Baja and Nevada and California, before SCORE.

The Riverside race and the stadium races were his idea to get more people to see off road racing (and pay to see it). The Parker 400 was Score's big race in California and Arizona for many years.

SCORE began running races in Mexico when the governor of Baja pleaded with Mickey, after Mexico's failed attempt to run them after they booted NORRA out of Baja in 1973 and replaced them with Mexico's own B.S.C. (Baja Sports Committee) to run the November 1973 Baja 1000 and June 1974 Baja 500. The first SCORE Baja event was the July 1974 Baja Internacional, a 400 mile race that was a huge success.

Its just not the same with Sal gone...he actually cared about the bikes more than Norman IMO, I havent raced a SCORE event since Sal left.
I just race semi-locally D37, D38 and in the National hare and hound series now.

I hear you on that... I hear it from others... bikes are just an added burden to deal with it seems to the Trophy Truck guys. You noticed that instead of the trucks starting late in the day (for a wide safety distance between them and the bikes), they made the bikes start racing the night before!

Bikes are part of the history of Off Road Racing and it is a place where many get their start in the sport... Malcolm Smith was not the only bike racer who moved up to four wheels.

The original (1967) Mexican 1000 race was a best time from Tijuana to La Paz with a run what you brung mentality... bikes, cars, dune buggies, Jeeps, trucks... Sal understood the history and bikes were equal as competitors, IMO.

You'll do great. High Hp doesn't always mean fast.

Spot on, and with all the course errors lately with the MCs a lot of teams have quit SCORE, my old team did. Thats too bad. The MC guys are taking the biggest risk out there, and are sort of thrown to the wayside. And the starting at night sucks, that means we race at night twice somewhat.
Racing bikes really helps a person drive on 4 wheels off-road due to the dynamics involved, and being able to "Read" the terrain.

I think you will do fine, just mash it! Those high HP guys break a lot too.
    Kick ass seabass!

Well after being here two months I'm finally getting a weekend off. Feel like getting the truck out for some fun. Anyone want to go somewhere and show me around or have recommendations for places to go.....off road wise I mean. I know San Diego the town pretty well
