Positive dealer service experience - thought I'd share.

I took my 2014 in for 5000 mile service today. I only have about 3100 miles on it, but I'm hitting the road tomorrow and when I get to 5000 miles I'll be in the middle of nowhere on a pretty tight schedule. No problem. They did the oil and the tires and got me out in about an hour. That was especially awesome, since they told me it would take closer to 2 hours.

I asked how being early affected my schedule - come back at 8000? I definitely don't intend to go to 10k. The answer was basically, "don't worry, you're covered." But he did mention that my service light would come on at 5000 miles anyway. That sounds kind of annoying, but we'll see.

You are entitled to 5 services and you can get them done 5 days in a row if you want, but that will be it. I change my oil every 3-5k but on previous tacomas, they said the entire service has to be done at one time each time. im going to swich over to synthetic at some point but Im using up the free service first. I say change it yourself at 7 then go back to the dealer at 10 and you will be back on track. just my opinion.

You can reset the service light now and it will be good until 8000 miles...
In your manual...was really easy on my 06... I think they changed the method on my 2014 (only at 2100 miles...)

It's something like turning the ignition switch to on six times while you hold the odo reset button with your right index finger in your nose and your left hand rubbing your belly. Obviously, with your right finger in your nose and left hand on your belly, this will require some degree of...talent. And probably tinted windows. And maybe a maga...nvm

Will probably take a couple of tries, but for pete's sake don't cheat by looking up the answer in the manual. :D

But yeah. If you want it sync'd again, just change it yourself halfway to 10k and then pick up where you left off w/TC.

Cool! I'll look it up. Thanks for the tip.

As for getting back in synch with 5k intervals, I could DIY or pay for one change at some point, as suggested. I could do 'freebies' (which they really are not) at 7k and 11k, then back in synch at 15k, which would delay the inevitable until the end of the TC plan. Or I could just shift to 8k, 13k, etc. What I actually do probably depends on circumstances when the changes are due.

Thanks again for the advice. TW rocks! :taco:
