congrats! a 50k is tough, add in challenging terrain it becomes very, very tough

I decided to combine two loves- backpacking and trail running and did a two day trip into the Crazy Mountains. The weather didn't cooperate to well and got a big dump of snow and temps falling into the 20's at night, but still a great trip!

threw in a pack rod to boot, thus combining three loves :)

Seems there's a bit of a minor controversy about the Ultra Beast Medals. Some folks in the longer distance Ultra Running Community feel that 'Buckles' should only be for 100 mile runs, or greater. What do you guys think? I've honestly never had that cross my radar before.

in ultra circles that's true, many also have a time factor that has to met as well (ie under 24 hours)

if someone wants to award buckles for other distances, I certainly don't have a problem w/ that- always been a firm believer in RYOR (run your own run) :)

I tend to agree with the ultra runners. Its usually reserved for 100 mile runs.

But If I did the ultra beast and I got a buckle I would be excited about it for sure! :D

Yeah, it's interesting. Different realms and communities have different traditions. Far be it for me to tread on someone else's - but this buckle/medal is one serious piece of hardware. I have no clue what Spartan Western Canada has in store for us with the correct medal (that will eventually come in the mail), but this chunk of steel is certainly hanging proudly with all my others!!

well, I did it. Ran my first 50K this last Saturday. Well...My time was ok, 5:53:52 with 6800ft of gain. Which is the most I have ever done. I place 11th overall and 3rd in my age group (i'm 48).

I have some second thoughts about that 50 miler! Gonna do another in November.

Ran 26:05 in the 8k today. Course was 0.1 miles long so about 30 seconds slower. Not awful.

Bloody hell!! 8k in 26 minutes!! Fastest I could ever do 8k, would be maybe 40 minutes. And I'd be dragging my tongue for the last km.

    Nice job!!
