So nice to be sitting back, see the lights flicker and realize no worries :D

For the cost though, that generator is pretty bad ass.

We have a similar set up at our family cabin in soda springs. I've never had to use it when I've been there but its good to know that its there in case I need it. (I will probably need it now since I just said I've never used it).

We've got an extension wired up to a breaker. When I need it, flip the main line breaker off, flip the generator breaker on, plug in the 220 extension cord I made and the house has power. Cheap and easy. Just have to watch the neighbors houses for power or have my friend up the street text me when it's back on. :D And yes, I add Stabil to the fuel both in the generator and snow thrower.

Pretty much exactly what I'm going to be doing, just with an on-off-on transfer switch so the power doesn't backfeed to the grid.

Can't go wrong with a Honda. If I needed something for daily use I would fork out the extra. But just for a backup, it seems like it's a great option and priced nice.

Yeah, that's why I hit the main first. Have a link or pic of the transfer switch?

It's not in yet. Will be something like this:

With an inlet box like this so I just run a regular 30amp extension cord from the generator to the inlet and turn on whatever breakers I want to keep on in the house:

Got it. We have a redneck solution installed. I should take a pic when I get a chance.

Lowes carry them. Typically, you would put stuff you want to power using the generator on that panel. Be careful sizing the generator if you want to power something with an electric motor because the load the motor creates fluctuates when starting and running.

Exactly. I got one for portability. Got the second so I could run them together for 4000w. But, dang, always need more power, and that 7000w looks pretty enticing.

Wall extension wired to a double breaker that's always off. Got this generator about 8 years ago when we had a storm knock out power for 4 days.
