    Good info!

My buddy has an 05' with frame rot holes and he lived in PA (included state) for many years with it. A couple years he moved to Texas (not included state).

Now he is trying to figure out what to do and filed a claim with corporate because technically he is not included in the service campaign.

Texas is the #1 state for trucks and I know for a fact many NE salt belt trucks end up down there to sell used due to demand. All those guys are left out. IMO Toyota should also consider where the truck has lived its life. His truck had to spend 80% of its life time in the NE and had signs of major issues while in PA.

Just got this letter in the mail from Toyota - out of the blue.

States on the back that a replacement vehicle will be provided during assessment, treatment and/or further actions required which can take up to 48 hours (or something like that), kind of sounding like a frame replacement scenario. Limited campaign lifetime - until March 2016.

at least you guys up in the northeast are getting some support....I'm sad Hawaii's not on the list...90% of the population lives within 8 miles of the pacific ocean.

I can actually watch rust form on metal at work, and it spreads as fast as weeds.

Just got a call from the dealer. They found a spot that they are having an engineer who is going to be in the area today look at. Should have an answer by the end of the day. Not sure I know which way I hope this goes, I guess a new frame would be nice, but whatever. lol.

I just got a letter from Toyota to bring my truck in for a frame inspection. If they do not see perforating rust they will apply a coating. It's a 07, and the previous tacoma I had was a 2000 that I lost to frame rust. You'd think they would have started doing something different!

Yes Mad Man. "Certain 2005 through 2008 Model Year Tacoma Vehicles Corrosion-Resistant Compound Application to the Vehicle's Frame. LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN

Toyota has received reports that certain 2005-2008 model year Tacoma vehicles operated in specific cold climate areas with high road salt use may exhibit more than normal corrosion to the vehicle's frame. Toyota investigated these reports and determined that the frames in some vehicles may not have corrosion resistant protection sufficient for use in these areas....etc etc.

Cold weather areas listed are CT DE IL IN KY MA MD ME MI MN NH NJ OH PA RI VA WI and WV also Washington DC.

Any authorized participating Toyota Dealership located in the cold climate states will inspect the condition of your vehicle's frame. Based upon the results of Toyota's inspection, if significant rust perforation is not found, toyota will apply Corrosion Resistant Compounds (CRC) to key areas of your vehicle's frame at no charge to you.

You must have your vehicle inspected and the CRC application completed by a participating Toyota Dealership no later than March 31,2016

If a participating Toyota Dealership confirms that your vehicle's frame has significant rust perforation the dealer will provide an appropriate rememdy at no charge to you. There are no mileage limitations.

While the CRC is being applied to your vehicle, your dealership will arrange a complimentary loaner vehicle for up to 2 days.

If you have previously paid for repairs to address this specific condition, please mail all required paperwork to the following address for reinbursment.
    Toyota Motor Sales, USA, INC
    Toyota Customer Experience, WC10
    19001 South Western Avenue
    Torrance, CA 90509

I have the required documentation check list for reimbursement if anyone needs it.

That is the long and short of the letter. Hope it helps.

Good luck Jer! Hey, did your frame look totally rusted out, or was the problem in places that was hard to see? I'm paranoid as all hell now LOL. Keep us updated on the progress. Thank you.

My '06 is going in for a quick inspection today. Told them about pushing a slag hammer through the frame right beside the rectangular hole by the driver side cat, they figure it's just going to be a quick look today so they can order parts. If not, she goes in next week for a more comprehensive inspection.

For any Ottawa folks watching this topic, I had a very...um...interesting experience on the phone with Kanata Toyota which gave me a bad gut feeling and led me to canceling that appointment and going with Orleans Toyota instead. Very different and immediately positive experience so far.

This is the state of my frame by the driver-side cat:

Edit: And yep, looks like I'm getting a new frame. Will know more next week.
