A co-worker told me of one of his relatives that was written up by his hoa for parking cars on the lawn, they said he could only park on the pavement, but they had no rule about were the pavement had to be. he owned a paving company so he paved half of his yard and parked his cars there, they couldn't do anything about it. I live in the country, I will never pay someone to tell me how to conduct myself at my own house.

 

I wouldn't want a neighbor parking on his grass either, if he wants to pave it then cool. If not, it isn't a parking space and you're knocking $50,000 off my home value.

 

Yea, I dont even park in my own yard unless we are working in the driveway.

 

The last time I skinned a coyote in the front yard a high school girl came over and wanted to pet it.

I'm sure someone somewhere has a neighbour in a nice neighbourhood who has 50 broken ass cars on his lawn in the suburbs but I'm sure you would notice before you move in.

 

Or some well meaning, poor decision making person to think that because he wants to live in the country on acreage but can't afford it yet that it's okay to live like Sanford and Son or park wherever you feel like parking.

If you want to live like that, do it. I would fucking LOVE some property secluded from my neighbors. Don't bring down the neighborhood values because you don't care about parking in YOUR lawn. I don't give a shit if you park on YOUR lawn either, except when it costs ME money because living next to a guy like YOU means nobody wants to buy MY house.

Had the same issue took them to court and won since the area of my owned property is not common area garage is domain. They then tried to change the docs and failed as I would have been grandfathered....

I understand the junk in the front yard type shit and we do have rules for doing auto repair on cars up on jacks etc: but if we are in our garage they back off now.

Since then I have had 57 violations of complete bullshit.....
Here are a few of them

1. Edged distance from sidewalk to grass too wide
2. Installed 2 1/2 inch blinds ( cherry brown color) inside my home to match decor received notice to change back to white or be fined $50 a day told the HOA commando to get fucked. Went back to court and won.
3. Then they said I had to pressure wash the extieor brick of my townhouse again told them to get fucked served them with a court order to appear. My townhouse is 6 years old no mold or mildew anywhere.
4. Then get a notice to replace deck boards on my deck I then went and knocked on the dicks door and personally handed him a refusal letter and a treaspass warning to not step on my property.

They no longer fuck with me.....

 

A solid HOA document is legally binding and in today's developments in communities are written by Attorneys and recorded with the county. Be damn sure that many of them specifically exclude illegal activities and may specifically note the manufacturing of illegal substances to cover their assess.
Also note, that in relatively new communities just starting to build, there may be a handful of homes. The rest, bare lots so maybe you don't see the 50 cars as you stated?

Edit, HOA's can also be very simple. As simple as, 1. Don't let your lawn die 2. Water your lawn 3. No parking on your lawn exceeding 24 hours 4. Mow your lawn


I agree that some are overboard but, again, many look to preserve their investment.

They also got pissed because I went to the zoning and code enforcement about housing laws to many people living in dwelling stirred up a lot of shit.....

We have people from India and some other countries that seem to have in laws and parents living in dwelling that goes over the limit.

2 adults and one child or adult per room not 5 or 6 adults plus 3 or 4 kids....

 

The new shitty neighbour argument goes both ways.

You can move in somewhere with a reasonable HOA and then a bunch of tight asses move in and make it hell.

This happened where my GF lives. Started off completely reasonable and now I can't park in the fucking complex because I drive a truck. Meanwhile the people on the board of the HOA drive old beaters. You also can't have different flowers, have screen doors, have to have your garbage bins in at a certain time or you get a ticket, can't work on your car, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of anal retentive shit.


Where I live now we have no HOA. We had one issue with a guy who had loud parties on the weekend. A few people went down the street and talked to the guy. He agreed and understood that it could be annoying so when he does have people over he keeps it inside and music at a reasonable volume.
