F HOA's. Lived in one once, got a few grand in fines, moved to spot with no HOA, best decision ever.

Whenever I do work in microsoft word it tells me the spelling for colour/neighbour/etc is wrong and I'm too lazy to fix the spelling settings. Drives me nuts though when the page is coloured red all over

I was hired once to clean out an unused back-alley garage on a rental property. Literally ten minutes after I'd pulled out the first item in preparation to hauling it to the dump I had a police car and a representative from an HOA show up screaming about permits and violation of association rules. Finally, the owner of the building was called in and an agreement was made that I could continue of not a single thing touched the ground outside the garage. There was to be no putting anything in piles and sorting it, everything had to go straight from the garage to the trailer and be immediately removed. Also, I had to remove the trailer in the evening and at lunch time when other homeowners might be home. I finished the job, gave notice to the maintenance company, then moved from that city.

I get it my friend. Some people suck. Hence our ability to make choices that suit us best.
I have settled HOA disputes many times and once in a Court of Law.
My wife and I chose to have no neighbors long ago no matter where we have built. Suits us well.
OP should have paid attention and hopefully we all have a takeaway from this boring fucking thread. :)
    Now, we have Cake.
    Cheers

Here's some silly HOA laws I've found while looking around the Web:

Must have only a certain number of rose bushes -- you will be fined if you have too many or too few.

Can open your garage door only to move your vehicle into or out of the garage and must afterwards immediately close it. You must not exit your house through your garage if not in a vehicle.

Must conform -- no individualism! Every house must be the same.

Tough luck if you are selling -- no signs means no signs, period!

This all reminds me of a family member of mine who lived in an area where the HOA decided that everyone had to replace their asphalt roofing with wooden shake roofing or face fines. Then one house caught on fire from fireplace embers and everyone was told that they had to replace their wooden shake roofing with fire-resistant roofing or face fines.

My HOA only allows for basic maintenance. When I did a V8 swap into a ford ranger, I explained that the engine currently in the truck had old oil, but the V8 had new oil, therefore fell into the approved guidelines. Didn't have an issue.

Everytime I changed suspensions, I pointed out that I was simply doing a tire rotation, and inspecting suspension components. No issue.

In fact....the only issue I really had, was hooking my boat up to the garden hose, and running it after rebuilding the carbs........but.....they were mostly upset that I hooked it into the community pool water supply........

Lots of laws are ridiculous. That has little to do with HOAs and all to do with people trying to fix or prevent stupidity by making new or additional stupidity.

If this guy lived an area with the no garage door open rule he'd be in trouble. I've got a nice 30 x 75 ft. shop now to work in but still remember working out of the garage.

I stopped reading here while recalling many of your "basic maintenance" projects of years past.
I suspect this one ended up with a loud boom and property damage as well
