Brown spot in paint.

I bought my truck new from the dealer in June of this year. Its just over 3 months old now and I was washing it today and noticed a tiny little brown spot about the size of a nail head on my hood. This definitely just showed up over the last week or so because I wash my truck about once a week and I waxed it when I first bought it and I've never noticed this before. I tried hitting it with a claybar and it did nothing. I then tried some scratch remover and waxing it and neither did anything to it so its definitely a problem between the paint and the clearcoat.

Should I take my truck to the dealer and get this documented and checked out? Has anyone ever had anything like this on their truck before?
Its something that I don't mind living with but I'd hate to see this spread.

It doesn't come off? If it was rust under the paint it wouldn't look like that I don't think, at least not that I've ever seen. Usually you'll get bubbling and lifting, your paint looks good minus that specific spot.

Sure it isn't a stain?

 

Not sure what it could be a stain from. Claybaring it does nothing, and it feels smooth to the touch which makes me think the problem is under the clearcoat.

Any products anyone recommend trying on this?

If it were me I would take it to the dealer and see what's up.

Take it to a professional detailer, I don't think the dealer is going to do anything.

 

do you have a oak tree near by? i get the same marks from a oak tree where i park. A cleaner/wax will remove the spots

 

Unless the paint coat is broken, it's not rust. Rust needs oxygen to form.

It looks like a drop of something was there and stained it's way through the paint layer.

 

I used to work in auto industry and have patents regarding coatings. Have it documented at dealer. This might possibly forecast worse to come. Maybe not. But it might.

I would be motivated to have their body shop and down to the primer and refinish - taking a look at the primer condition. If the primer looks bad then on down to the steel.

Or maybe wait to see if it gets worse, after getting it on the record.

 

Imagine leaving food inside a ziplock bag outside in the sun and rain and sun and rain and sun and rain for several days, weeks, months. Paint is good but it is not a layer of gold.

(sarcasm on) Not saying that Toyota metallurgy has weaknesses with rust or anything. No, id never say that. (sarcasm off)

Also there could be an underlying defect that is blooming to the surface.

 

Actually looks to be a sap or pollen type spot. Get you some purple power, and dilute it to where it says for automotive paint, then clean it really good, then make sure to wash it normal and at least wax that spot you washed really good, should bring it off. I used to get tbhose on my little white kia. That was the only method i could ever use that worked.

 

Some bad advice provided here. If the spot doesn't come off with a clay bar then more than likely it is under the clear coat. Show it to the dealer.

You know, That looks awfully round In the picture. On Close inspection is it perfectly round?? I've got a thought - check to see if there are any others - take a real good look..????

Also I'd check;
Underside spot weld point directly underneath?
Check same year white taco's in the same location ....

 

I would try the sanding and buffing route. Use some wet 2000 or 2500 to see if it goes away then just buff that spot back out.

 

Leave the wet sanding to a pro.

 

People have to learn somehow. I am sure he can handle it if the dealer doesn't do anything for him.
