You can fire 38 special in a 357 Mag pistol.

IMO the more options the better, 357 gives you those options.

Sweet. I'll keep that in mind when I'm ready to do it, because I've never actually done a trigger before.

X2. I generally practice with .38 because it's cheaper. Plus it kicks less and is quieter, so it's helpful in preventing the possibility of a "flinch reflex" when I shoot the gun. It stays loaded with .357 when it's doing bedstand or carry duty, but during the great ammo shortage I had it loaded with +p .38 because I couldn't find any .357 and I'd shot all of mine like a dummy. :)facepalm:)

What do silencers do for bullet velocity? I might look into a replacement threaded barrel on one of my pistols one day.

On a related note, looking for anybody who knows S&W MP9 pistols better than me (so most people who know about guns), will a 5" barrel work on the same slide and frame from a setup that was built for 4.25" barrel (swap longer barrel only)? I kind of wanted the 5" from the beginning, but it was my first gun and got excited.

Threading a barrel & adding a suppressor will often increase velocity marginally. Some guns are designed with ported barrels that bleed off gas to keep the bullet subsonic, but the overwhelming majority of suppressors on the market do not reduce bullet velocity.

Also, on your M&P question, i dont know for certain, and I've wondered the same thing. From what I've read, the last inch of the 5" barrel is tapered slightly so you might have pretty sloppy tolerances between the 4" slide & 5" barrel. So it might work, but accuracy & function may suffer.

I've never seen a suppressor affect velocity of a round in any direction more than what could be attributed to normal round variances of 1-2%. It will shift your POI usually and also tends to tighten up your groups slightly on longer precision applications however. In short, no reason not to add a suppressor.

Get the suppressor....you'll never want to shoot without one once you try it once

Sell it and buy the pro core version. Or just find a 5" slide and barrel.

Is the frame the same from 4" to 5" version? That may be the way to go, to replace slide, spring, and barrel.

    So question of values

I'm trying to sell a Smith 629-4 seen here
    http://www.armslist.com/posts/30748...ndguns-for-sale-trade--smith-and-wesson-629-4

I have it listed at $1200 because I know I'll get lowballed on Armslist

With that being said, is it realistic of me to expect close to $1000 for the gun/scope combo?

I'm getting a lot of really lowball offers, like palmetto state armory rifles with nothing extra to throw in...I thought I had it traded off on a Sig Scorpion, but the guy changed his mind at the last minute.

I have another guy offering a Rem 700 Tactical in some sort of green color with a cheap ass field and stream scope

I'm not seeing these as anywhere close to equal value...am I the one who's crazy or are they?

It's been my experience over the years that you'll get more if you sell items separately and you'll move them quicker too. You may be getting a lot of people that want the wheel gun or the optic but you're trying to find that one customer who wants both of them which really limits your potential buyers. Most usually expect a 'package deal' discount too and will even beat you up further on your package price. Also, Armslist blows and I avoid it like the plague.
