People do it for huge MT tires a lot. I'm not really sure of the psychics behind it though

Edit: my bad didn't see your reply

It's hard to diagnose without actually driving the vehicle. It sounds like it's a rotational issue, so it's just a matter of elimination. Have you listened to the vehicle on the hoist? Listen for differentiating noises(humming sound usually).

Any Toyota dealer diagnosing noises, vibrations and ride harshness should be testing with a NVH Analyzer. Toyota has a NVH special service tool. Not all dealers have them.

I would start looking towards the transmission or a bearing possibly. I haven't experienced it personally, but rear differential angle could cause vibration. And that is something that could have easily been messed up at factory during install.

Anyways I will pm you with my email address if you have any further questions.

Dad managed 17 tire shops around the town when I was a kid. I even started working for him at 13 till I graduated college. After that I helped out here and there till he retired years back. We did some pretty crazy tire mounts, like a 155 / 75 R13 on a 8 inch wide rim for the low ride guys using soap and a big thick rope to air them up. Even did a few farm tires but those were less common (and we were in Nebraska). If the tire was that far out of balance we would rotate the tire on the rim and try again. If that did not work we would scrap the tire. Never heard of using bean bags to balance a tire out, guess you learn a new trick even at my old age.

I tried the dynabeads on our KLR650's (685's now) for a season. In my opinion, they do not work as advertised. We still felt vibrations at higher speed, around 65 mph the death wobble would start . Low speed, below 30 mph or so there was a slow pulsing/surging, like all the beads had migrated to one side of the tire so it was really out of balance. Then there was the issue of the beads trying to escape when checking the tire pressure.. they would get stuck it the valve and let all the air out of the tire. I ended up buying a balancing stand, replacing the tubes and tires and everything has been great, no high speed wobble and no low speed surging.

    I won't use dynabeads again.

Thanks for the suggestion though.. glad it worked for you.

that doesn't seem right, but at this point.. it doesn't surprise me one bit.

Very cool.. at least you'll know it's done right.

We'll have to keep in touch, I'll probably have a few questions for you once I dig in to the Charger. The carrier (enclosed) is picking it up the 24th, so I'm looking forward to seeing it before the end of the month. :D

No prob. This isn't really going anywhere anyway. Toyota has written this defect off as a "characteristic" and I'm out of option.. I guess Toyota wins... fuckers. you get what we give you... big business wins again, get used to used to it, it's only going to get worse... I'm out.

I had a similar problem with a 2010 double cab off the road where a harmonic vibration would come and go at low speed, about 38 mph and then about 65 after several miles this would disappear. It literally drove me crazy as I thought the tranny was going to STB. I never could get a straight answer from the dealer or the technician as they could never pinpoint 1 specific reason - We could not find anything was always the answer ! A friend who delivers parts to Toyota dealers networks with a lot of regional people and they were pinpointing the issue on the weights used to balance the drive shaft. No matter what, I could not take the financial hit and traded it away for a 2012.
At present, I am happy to report that I have none of these issues with my new ride and I am over 50K. I wish you all good fortune in these dealings. You have all educated me with detailed knowledge and resources for the future. THANK YOU ALL!

I realize that toyota is not alone when it comes to covering up defects, poor build quality and lack of QC with the bullshit blanket. I have talked with a couple transmission specialists that agree on one possible cause of the vibration could be output shaft on the trans. Since we are still experiencing the vibration while in neutral, 3,4 and OD at highway speeds it rules out the torque converter, gearset etc. They both said the only way to eliminate the rear end or diff, is to install a different one. One of the owners asked me to get close up video of the drive shaft at the slip yoke and the flange to the diff. He wants to review it and take the truck for a drive.. so we'll go from there.

Damn Charlie, that's some pretty serious shit going on with your back.. were you involved in an accident or have DDD? Best wishes to you, hope you have a quick recovery.

I did. I also tried a 2 part polyurethane in a couple densities, had no impact on the vibration issue we are experiencing with tacoma. And after reviewing the go pro videos I made of the DS while driving, I wouldn't recommend modifying a carrier bearing like that to anybody. You'd be surprised how much horizontal (front to back) travel the DS needs when the suspension compresses and offloads. The std. CB allows the DS to move freely back and forth. Making the CB almost rigid (filling the void) is going to put excessive stress on the CB and rear end and when it's compressing and offloading. Maybe it it's ok with on a vehicle with little or no suspension travel, or it may compensate a little for a DS that has a bit too much run out... I don't know.

It was a waste of time and money.

Yes, unfortunately I disclosed all the documentation regarding the case to the company handling the arbitration, which just happens to be contracted by toyota... IE; you don't have a fucking chance in hell.

Which they disclosed to toyota, and then toyota forced their employees to sign documentation stating that they were confused and had no idea what I was referring to. Yeah, it was a big fucking joke. The techs I spoke to regarding the vibrating at highway speeds, suddenly forgot and thought I was talking about the low speed shudder.

If you EVER go through arbitration with toyota, or any manufacture. File the required documentation, that's it.

Any third party statements, documentation, professional opinions, receipts etc. hold onto them till the day of the arbitration. If you provide ANY of the docs to the arbitrator the shark from toyota will discredit everybody and every claim you make.
