    Hello everyone.
    02 Tacoma PreRunner 3.2L.
Dealership is telling me that my new after market converters doesn't have enough capacity.
    $2600 estimate.
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

u probly have a 3.4l...... and no an aftermarket cat is a gamble. its not about capacity. some aftermarket cats work well, some dont do enough to satisfy the ecu on toyotas. its a luck of the draw. oem is obviously the best option.

I just put on Magnaflow Direct Fit Catalytic Converter front and rear.

    Part # 51679 Front

    Part # 51944 Rear

    About $650 for both.

Have had them on for a little while now and have not thrown any codes.

I know there are a few others out there with these cats that have had great luck.

I searched quite a bit to make sure they wouldn't cause a CEL issue.

Do you have any up updates on how your Magnaflow cats are doing any issues. My 2004 3.4l needs cats and they are the same part# as you used.

Idk what the dealership is smoking because that is wayyyyy too high. I got both up and downstream converters from flowmaster and installed them both in 1.5 hrs myself. I believe it was 400-500 off eBay for both I can't remember. I got the bolt in direct fit ones not the ones you have to weld on. It's not a difficult job. Just gotta soak the bolts that hold the exhaust together with croil or some other penetrant about twelve hours before and it's no problem.

how many miles have you put on the Flowmasters,Im looking for a direct replacement and am trying to figure out the best brand to get based on peoples reviews. Also did you use the gaskets supplied by Flowmaster or get OEM Toyota ones Ive read that the aftermarket(Magnaflow) gaskets are a bit cheesy. I would like to go OEM route of course but putting over $2000 worth of parts on my truck that has 245,000 miles might not be a good idea because I might not keep it past the 300,000 mile mark.

I have about 20k on them now. I bought the gaskets from the stealership. The cats I ordered didn't come with gaskets. I believe it was 3 or 4 gaskets I'm not sure. I will say this, my truck magically runs smoother and actually a tad quieter even though I have a flowmaster 40 muffler on it since replacement. I highly recommend flowmaster cats. But like I said I only have about 20k on them. I have 210k miles on my 01

Thanx for the FYI,I need a complete new cat back exhaust too maybe I will go the Flowmaster route. Unfortunately where I live with have Cali emissions which ups the cost of the replacements Flowmaster #3050014-$349 and #3050015-$329 as opposed to Toyota OEM #1740307041-$776.57 and #1741007041-$914.57 those are the cheapest online prices I could find OEM.https://parts.olathetoyota.com/2004toyotatacomaparts.html

No problem. Yea that's a good jump in price I'd just go with flowmaster personally. I haven't had any hiccups yet with mine. I have more problems with the cheap O2 sensors that I buy. Have any questions about installation feel free to send me a pm.

Thanx I got some time to research and figure things out what im going to do its inspection is due next year March, but I hate that f**king Check engine light always on. Probably buy the stuff and install myself and hope for the best. I really don't want to invest in OEM parts at this stage of the game at 245K I want to keep it till 300k and then maybe time for something new.

Idk if I'll get rid of mine anytime soon got too many memories wrapped up in it(plus not a big fan of second and third gen tacos)I'm trying to get 500k out my coma lmao. Luckily they aren't too strict on emissions here in Louisiana. My check engine comes on and goes off every two hundred miles and I think it's a faulty O2 sensor. Cheap eBay crap

You can test the resistance with a multi meter to the o2 sensors to see if they are goodhttp://www.justanswer.com/car/0watt-2001-toyota-tacoma-four-wires-front-o2-sensor.html. Get the DENSOs at Amazon or Rockauto.com cheapest route if bad. Yes I definetly hear you I love my 2004 the 2016 look like shit and your limited to what maintainence items you can do on the GEN2 or the newer versions. I may keep this truck forever this thing is a beast just got to keep up with these repairs to keep it running.

Rather than start a new thread on converters, I thought I'd jump in here. I've got a 2003 2.7 engine Taco standard body 4X4 and the dealer tells me both cats are bad. Truck has 201,000 miles. I'm the 3rd owner and while truck is in good shape, maintenence histoy is unknown. Dealer claims both 02 sensors are good, but cats are bad. Assuming the worst, I'm not too happy about installing OEM cats at $2,600 from the dealer in a 13 year old truck with high mileage. I'm looking at magnaflow cats. I'm in an area where emission testing is required. Here are my questions.

    1. Do I need to buy the 50 state cat for the 2003 Taco? The sticker says its set up for California emissions. I've heard all '03 Tacos are set up for California standards. Does that mean a LEV1 cat?

I'm looking at this one for the front https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=447184

And this one for the back https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=441757

    2. Any view of magnaflow? Are there better atermarket cats? Iknow OEM is best but I just need to run this truck for another 3 years.

    Any help is appreciated.
