Spent the day today with one of my actress clients in a back alley in North Hollywood. Aside from sweeping away used syringes and condoms, it was a good day.

They make great subjects. Try lying on the ground with a WA lens. That's always exciting-I've had some almost good enough shots but nothing I really like yet.

I have some cousins that are rodeoing on Sunday, we were going anyway so I can test it out. The elk are still rutting, so next weekend we are going to get into the thick of them. Probably piss some hunters off hahaha.

I ran across this blog post about shutter counts and failure for Canon models. It doesn't offer a source for the numbers but still interesting. Also, if you are concerned about copyright, check out the home page. It's something called PIXSY and tries to broker infringement deals on your behalf. Interesting idea and if it really works, could make tracking down abusers easy peasy-except they don't deal with "private" abusers (I think that means an individual who posts on FB wouldn't be contacted?).

Depending on your position, it might be a bit too long except maybe shooting the opposite corner.

Also, familiarize yourself with the locking ring. You'll want to set that so you can zoom as needed but so the barrel won't slide (which can happen if you carry the lens or are shooting down on your subject). It's a really nice lens despite the negative comments people make about it.

They are ropers, so I was going to try to get at the opposite end of the arena from the roping chutes. I will play with it a bunch tonight. Thanks for the advice.

I don't know much about rodeo. I do have friends that own a big ass ranch in CA and they host one or two a year. Fun stuff.

Went to Cruisin the coast (8 day annual event) today, got a few pictures that I'm happy with.
Any suggestions? On the 3rd pic I should've payed more attention and seen the glint of the sun on the chrome.

So bummed out. I got a ton of what I thought would be good shots this afternoon. Nothing I got with the 100-400 is sharp, not one single picture is worth a shit. I would just chalk it up to my sub par shooting, but when the IS would shut off when I wouldn't take a photo, I could see what looks like a piece of glass inside fall a tiny bit. I didn't notice until I put them on my computer to edit. I took a few with my 10-22 and they are fine, so I don't know. I'll call the lens joint in the morning and see what they say. Also even shots I used a mono or the truck to stable myself aren't sharp.
