    Hello All,

I recently bought my truck and have come to the conclusion that I need new tires. I'm pretty sure the current tires are original, despite only having 46k miles, they are 16yrs old and showing signs of age (tread it fine but there is cracking). I went to Costco and they recommend the Michelin LTD M/S 31X10.5R15. And they want $180 a tire for them. Any better suggestions? Here is a few things to keep in mind.
    Truck is a pavement princess
I'll be moving to Idaho, so I need something that is all season.
And no, I don't want huge tires. Any help/input is much appreciated, thank you [IMG]

Get a good AT tire in that size. You can get most tires in a similar size but some popular tires are BFG's (I don't like them), duratracs!, cooper AT3, hankook dynapro ATM...
Lots of good choices! There's more and I'll let others chime in

Few threads on good tires but I'm too busy surfing the internets

BFG At's have good tread life and wear nice on pavement as well as being good in snow for about the same price as the Michelins. In fact BFG is owned by Michelin (so I've been told). STAY AWAY FROM FALKEN TIRES! Worst investment of my life were Falken Wildpeaks AT's... Good luck choosing something!

And 16 year old tires!?!? Get those off asap!
What I would get, for street use only, is something with a treadwear warranty. Do your research and gather what you can on peoples suggestions as it's all personal experiences here and go from there. Don't let the tire shops push you around. I have always had great experiences with discount tire myself and they (at least the shops I go to) always give great recommendations as far as what tires are best for your driving. Some shops don't care and will try to sell you the most your money will get them.

Yeah I just had my first experience with the chunking. Didnt even know what you guys were talking about until I looked at my tires after offroading in some rocky stuff and saw first hand. Oh well. Now I know. Probly won't get them again but who knows, they really are a good value and I don't wanna fork out a ton more for something I rarely do serious offroading in.

I'd also recommend the Michelin LTX M/S. I have them on my truck.
They may be expensive but they make up for it in Longevity. Many people can get 70,000 miles on them or more. They also worked great for me in the snow. Also drove in an ice storm once. I made it into work and there were crashes everywhere. I drive a dump truck with a sander on the back and plow in the front so when they call I have to go. I wouldn't even consider another tire. Well..if i was going to do some off-roading I would probably get something different.

If it's a pavement queen you can do no better than Michelin LTX M/S 2's. They are the best of the best and last almost forever. They are fantastic in the wet and not too bad on the ice and in the snow although you'll have to slow down which is just common sense. I've got them on the Taco and my old '73 Caddy. They aren't a serious off road tire but they get the job done on dirt roads. They don't like deep mud a whole lot though but I managed to get through 4 or 5 inches of it recently in 4Lo. And almost got stuck.

Second set of Michelin ltx ms on my 2003. This is only the third set of tires since new. Current mileage 244k, you get what you paid for when it comes to tires. Each set of michelins has or will do over 100k

I really liked my Goodyear Silent Armors, but they dodn't make them any more. I had a set of Wildpeaks on one of my my 2nd Gen Tundras and they were great. My be the lighter truck made them feel bad.

Look at the Goodyear wrangler AT adventure. similar to the old silent armors. I hated my silent armors in snow but they wear well on the road and handled well. Might be an option for you.

They wore horribly for me, I have to get new tires and I just put them in last year. In the snow I might as well have skis instead of tires lol. I'll be going with BFG AT's or General Grabbers within the next month. I had Goodyear Armortracs on my old truck, loved those too!

I have run both the BFG ATs and the Cooper AT3s (and previously the original Cooper ATs, but skipped the AT2 because they didn't look good to me). Coopers are much quieter and smoother rolling on the pavement and wear better, as well as performing better in snow. BFGs were better in mud and rocks, and probably look a little bit cooler. I'm on the AT3s to stay for now - great tires at a reasonable price. Ask your dealer - in my area Cooper does a rebate program this time of year where they send you a visa/MC gift card for $60-$80 if you mail in your receipt from buying a set of 4 tires.

Yeah man! Those silent armors sucked in snow, don't expect much better out of the BFG's, they might be ok when brand new but mine SUCKED in snow. I ordered cooper ST Maxx.

Thanks for the input all :) yes I do believe the tires are the original ones, but I'm not certain. The current tires on it are Goodyear Wrangler GSA and from everything I've read online, everybody hates them anyways.

I have always bought Michelin for my trucks and cars. I will say my current order for tires for the Tacoma is Nokian Rotiiva AT. You will probably have to get them online unless you have a dealer near by.

Drove a 4 runner on loan in Utah for a winter and it had them. Best damn tire i have ever driven. Snow, ice, dry, hot and rain didn't matter. Drove that runner all over the Northwest with no issues at all. Very compliant in all conditions but far the best tire i have ever driven in the snow.

Anyone have experience with an all-season highway tire (stock size P265/70R16 for a 2004 ext. cab 4 cyl.) that is not a Michelin LTX? I agree those tires look great and friends that run them say they are, but I can't pay that $ right now. Have two almost new Firestone Destination LE2s on rear now and need 2 new front tires - my miles are almost all highway these days :(. There seem to be no shortage of options - Dunlop, Yokohama, Firestone, Cooper, etc.

    Any experience, opinions?
