Hello, I don't use forums very much but I really could use some help on this one. I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma and a little red car started flashing on my dash. It never did this before or maybe I never noticed it before. I called the garage and they were not sure. I hate to take in and tie up time until I ask around. The truck starts, and the light goes off when the key is inserted. In the book it says "The indicator light flashes after the key has been removed from the engine switch to indicate that the system is operating. I know that is part of the theft protection of my truck but I didn't it would be on all the time.

It's the Engine Immobilizer System, toyotas anti-theft system once u insert the key into the ignition the transponder on the key sends a signal to the system to shut off allowing you to turn on the engine. Without the right key to match the signal the engine wont turn on. It turns on automatically after you remove the key.

You should see this [IMG] to the right of this [IMG] . When you click the paper clip, it brings up the "Brows" option. :)

Big Red, The '09 Tacoma that sits at my house belongs to my wife, it is her daily driver. The Tacoma was 3 days old and it was the first time we had come home after dark with her new baby. Wifey was kind enough that day to let me drive the Tacoma home. Pulled into the driveway, parked the Tacoma and went inside. Sometime around 10:30pm wifey goes out to check on her new baby to see if i had locked the doors. (lack of trust here?) WoWie ZoWie !!!! She comes back in and "WTF did you do to my new truck?" The little red light you describe was blinking (doing it's job). "You must have done something." she added. She was not paying attention the day we picked it up when the salesman was explaining all the little lights and symbols on the dash and the Engine Immobileizer System. She would not believe me till I found the page in the owner's manual that told her what I had just told her was true. Women, can't live with 'em, and can't......

I had called my dealership before I did this post. They called and confirmed that the red car light does stay on and blick whenever the key is not in. It is a anti theft feature to let someone know (like that would someone if they really wanted it) LOL It would have been nice if they had spelled it out clearer in the owner's manual, but if they had I would never had joined this forum and met so many nice people. I am pretty happy with my new truck. Had it 6 months and only put 3000 miles on it. Grab my wife's car to do the ramming in. Not happy about the Dunlop AT20 GrandTrek they stuck on it and trying to decide on what to put on, as I live in upstate NY and it snow a little here. Looking at the General as they seem to get really good reviews on TireRack. They are expensive but the floormats from http://www.weathertech.com/ "FloorLiner DigtalFit are super as well as the bug shield from them. It makes a breeze to clean up the cab. I also just installed the neoprene seat covers from http://www.wetokole.com/ and are really happy with them. I would not get the seat belt cover. It was not worth the 10 bucks.

Thanks again for all the help. I have started posting some pictures in the gallary if anyone is intested. More to come after I give her a bath. LOL
