Haha a 3 wheeler Honda big red would be awesome. We need.4x4 where we are going. We have weights to attach to the fronts of the utvs to keep the front down since its so damn steep

Seth, that sounds like a lot of fun! I really want to head down to WV to go ATV riding someday, but going up to NH works as well. The town of Gorham and Berlin allow ATVs on the road as well.

For anyone that's wants a Polaris ATV, there terrible to own (I use to ride a Sportsman 400, and it was a pile of garbage). I would take a Yamaha, Kawasaki, or a Can-Am over any other brand.

Not a big fan of Polaris ATV's. Never really liked them then my Brother in-law bought 2 for them brand new and has had nothing but problems with both of them and they are not even used very much. That confirmed it for me.
The King Quad's are quite nice a friend of mine has one. Yamaha produced a video a couple of years ago that compares all the big quads but leaves out the Suzuki until the very end then tries to say its very simular but theirs is better because of the air box or something like that. Cool video to watch.

You guys aren't the first people I've heard say that about Polaris ATVs. I've read some absolute horror stories about them as well. That being said, my friend and I both had Polaris ATV's and we beat the ever living shit out of them and did nothing but routine maintenance on them. They were also sport models so no 4wd system to worry about. We had another friend with a King Quad and that thing was a shit box. We towed it home more times than I can count because it would just stop running.

All that being said, it's been years since I've been on an ATV, they've changed a LOT since then.

I still think ATVs have grown too big. I've always had a ton of fun throwing around a light, 3-400cc ATV on a trail. I can't see wrestling a 900cc monster down a trail being much fun. I like being able to actually lift the ATV I'm riding.

My experience with Polaris is that they seem to need to be used all the time, or they don't work right. My parents have a '96 Big Boss 6x6, and it's been a mixed bag. When they first bought it it hadn't been used much (400 miles between 1996 and 2001) and they were having constant problems with the shifter/drive belt and the cooling system. They got it serviced and it worked flawlessly for about 10 years. They used it constantly around their farmstead hauling bags of grain, firewood trailers, sap tanks, plus various running around on fencing tasks, etc. They put around 15,000 miles on it over those 10 years or so and never had a hiccup.
A couple of years ago they bought a newer Polaris that they use most of the time instead, and the 6x6 has gone to crap again with the same cooling and shifting issues.

Haha well it's not for pleasure per se...It's for work to go check out some remote structure locations for a new transmission line. But that's not to say we won't have a good time...

Yea both my friend and brother in-laws machines are kept inside and all of them are not used all that much. The Suzuki is nice, runs great and the Polaris's are both POS's. BTW good luck picking up any one of them although the Suzuki and the Polaris 500 are a bit lighter being single cylinders the 800 is crazy heavy.

Right now, I'd like somewhere between a 3-500cc 4wd utility ATV to cruise trails. I liked the old Honda 300s, they were bulletproof, light and had decent enough power. They wouldn't win any races but they'd get you where you needed to go.

I loved my Honda rancher 400 4x4 . Never broke and I beat the shit out of it. Rebuilt the carb when I got it and change the fluids that's about it .

Was that the one I saw in your garage when you lived in Stoughton? Did you end up keeping it or selling it off?

My cousin's got an older (probably a 1993) Suzuki King Quad that he bought new. I'd love to have a little rig like that; with the 4x4 low and the diff lock combo that thing is a mountain goat. Not overly fast, but it's nice and light and it'll go absolutely everywhere so long as you keep the air intake above water. I've been bugging him to sell it to me for years but he won't let it go.

Sounds like fun! Fortunately for you, that type of ammo is still able to be found.

But at least you can have some fun while you go down there for work! :D

With the ATVs, I ride my uncle's, which he has a couple of Kawasaki Brute Force (750) and a Yamaha Grizzly (550). I like to ride the Grizzly more, since it weights a lot less than the Brute Force and handles slightly better, but has nowhere the same power (the Brute Forces are V-Twins). One of the Brute Force's has power steering, and from now on, that is the only way to ride such a big machine!

I sold 2 of these for my dad, 2 years ago for $900 each. Both with less than 1500 miles on them and garage kept. They only needed new batteries. But that is all dad wanted for them. I didn't have the cash to buy them from him at the time. Or a place to store them. :( great machines!

When I was a little kid in the late 80's/early 90's my cousin had a Suzuki Quadracer in yellow/blue. I remember seeing him ripping around on it. He joined a long list of people I know who own quads that have been run over by them.

I've always wanted to ride one, although I could never see myself owning one. I know how heavy a foot I'd have and I'd probably end up running myself over with it.

I bet it'd be a blast right up until that point though.
