I just bought 275/70/16 and they are perfect. They don't rub at all not even going in and out of driveways. I parked it next to my dads truck with 285s and you can barely tell a difference. I also did not lose one bit of power. I had an FJ with 285s and there was a slight power loss but really only noticeable up hills.

Hope this helps anyone that was in the same boat as me debating between 275s or 285s.

    I'll post pics soon.

275 and 285 is just the diameter. Its not going to do much more for you offroad other than get you additional ground clearance. And we are only talking 1.75 inches.

So your saying a 33x12.50 tire means the diameter is 12.50 and the width is 33? Are you sure bout that?

No.....On a 275/70/16 for example, the "275" is the tread width in mm's, the "70" is the height, i.e., the sidwall height is 70% of the width, then, the last number is the rim size.

in metric, as 285 represents, that is the width. divide that number by 25.4 to get inches

Yeah thats right. 70 is the aspect ratio correct? Either way your talking about a 10 mm difference right.

Depending on the aspect ratio of the other tire.

When i looked at the width difference between the 285 and the 275 we were talking less than an inch in width. But your right i guess it depends on brand of tire. I know on my old FJ i had to chop the body mount to fit the 285s without rubbing. I didnt want to have to do that again. I know it was strong but still felt shady. :)

Keep in mind the listed width is also at the center of the tire wall. My 285's have a 10.5" tread width, while my buddies 285's have a 9.5" tread width. His tires have an aspect ratio of 75, while mine are 60. Lots of variables in tires.

The metric system sucks I the 31x10.50. The whole % of the sidewall is to much for me but alittle help from TW and I like what I have.

Yeah i guess so. I'm just trying to help the people who want a nice size without the rubbing. I noticed when i searched not a lot of people were running the 275's. I really like them. They are a nice compromise. Also, my wife didn't want to jump in the car anymore like she had to do with my FJ so I was persuaded a bit. I'm also going to be dealing with a carseat soon so i think its gonna be perfect.
