2001 Tacoma Prerunner Xtra cab. 90,000 miles. Second owner. X3Rz N84E 94 engine. Comes w/ truck box, CD player+sub.

    Thoughts?

(Keep in mind that I don't need 4x4 since 95% of driving will be on the road.)

Is anyone able to run a Carfax for me?

condition and location is everything when it comes to what something is worth but I just bought a great condition 1999 sr5 ext cab with 117k miles and 2.4L engine with automatic and power everything fully loaded for $5000 even and that's right at its kbb dealer retail book value. I think it was only worth its $4500 private seller retail value but its hard to find these trucks with low miles in my area so I overpaid a little because that was how the market is here.

do KBB and don't pay more then the full retail value unless you don't mind overpaying to get what you want.

if you want a better ride get the standard Tacoma because it has the lower ride height and much softer suspension just like a car rides.

the tag "prerunner" stands for a 4wd suspension with only 2wd added so they ride high and very rough (bone jarring) with that beefed up 4wd suspension

Okay, very rough and bone jarring? Thats pretty extreme. Yes the truck is a truck, not a car like the little dropped 5 luggers seem sometimes.

OP check KBB and other trucks in the area. I had to pay over KBB for mine.

    Thanks for the responses y'all.

KBB spit out $8800-9000 based on the specs I put in.

I think this has been driven exclusively in the Southeast US.

    Any other thoughts?

It comes with a box, but I want to get a topper for it. Do truck boxes have resale value?

That seems fairly close -- value to cost-wise -- to this sale, right? How much more 'valuable' is the TRD PreRunner than this regular PreRunner?

I'm always amazed at taco resale values. What was this truck new, maybe $18k? Selling now as a 13 year old vehicle for 50% of new? That's mind-boggling.

My previous taco was a 2004 5-lug. I traded it in within just a couple of years, and the dealer had it on the lot the next day for more than I paid new (granted I added a nice ARE cap..).

Anyway, not to derail the thread, good luck with the purchase!

Very true. Any 2wd truck here isn't worth close to that much, Prerunner or 5-lug. But some places 4wd isn't needed so they are more valuable.

    Thanks!

depends, do you like the engine? if so then it might be. BTW prerunners do not ride rough. my 07 has Michelin tires and is the smoothest ride ive ever had...

Milage is low, but it has steel wheels and non TRD. Personally a V6 is minimum requirement for me when it comes to a truck. Need that extra power when hauling my Offroad Bike.

Is it power or manual windows/mirrors?

I would pass unless you can get it for like $6,500.

He sold it to someone else. The truck had manual locks and windows. Not sure about mirrors. Probably manual.

Oh well, my truck search continues.

This was an SR5 package but without power locks/doors. I've been scoping craigslist for a while.

May be good that you didn't get it. Nice truck, but around where I live, that's a bit high in price, though I have no idea how it is where you live.
Best of luck in your search! Keep hurting craigslist, that's where I found my little 96 for $250.

I don't think I've ever even seen a Prerunner here. A couple of 5-lugs, but even those are uncommon.

I can't imagine a 2WD Tacoma selling that well in New England when 90+% of them are 4WD. Depends where you are, I guess.

Pete, You will find another one. Sure they can be hard to find but with searching they are out there. I thought $9000 a bit on the high side but prices vary by area as others have posted.

I found this link to be a good source: http://www.cudlautosmart.com/Research/TradeInValues.aspx

    Also: Car Gurus, Cars.com

It took me 6 weeks of searching everyday to find my latest Toyota.
