Yeah...you step into my home. I fear for my safety and that of my family. Probably still won't shoot but I will be ready to.

It will all boil down to what the employee handbook says.(Which is given to each employee, and they are required to sign a paper stating that they have received it, and usually that they have read it as well) If the employeed handbook says that you are subject to search AFTER clocking out, and you have read and signed the employee handbook, then there is a greater chance that Amazon could win any lawsuit because each employee, by signing and reading the handbook, have accepted this information, and accepted the conditions when they walked into work their first day. If they have a problem with the rules, then I say get a new job.

The constitution protects you against illegal search and seizure by the government. It has nothing to do with private property. If there is a sign outside the parking lot stating that by parking here, you accept that your vehicle may be searched, then you actually HAVE consented, since you agreed to park there. The fine line however is in my next comment.....

Actually, if the company has a visible sign at the entrance to the parking area that explicitly states that by parking there, you consent to searching of your vehicle, then the property owner DOES have the legal right to have your vehicle searched. The fine line I mentioned above is that a property owner is supposed to contact the local law enforcement to come search the vehicle, and USUALLY they will require that the property owner provide probable cause.

Haha, North Las Vegas and unfortunately heroin is making a comeback so tweekers are hitting up the nice neighborhoods. The AR is out just cause I cleaned it the other day brought it upstairs and left the case in the garage. It's not normally out nor would I ever use it for a home invasion or anything unless as a last resort, I only use it for recreational shooting. The 12g is there for worst case scenario, god forbid they get past me, my wife still has a gun to use.

Yeah, I'm not gonna draw on a home invader and start popping off rounds like fireworks. However, I'll pull on them and give them the option to leave and if they come back I won't be as generous. Now, if I give you the option and you start walking toward me I'll let them know I'll shoot and if they continue then I will. I won't aim for a lethal kill or anything but just to stop them, like a bullet in the leg or something. My intentions will never be to kill unless deemed an immediate threat but they will be to stop you.

I'm not taking sides on this but don't you think Amazon's security measures would have been discussed at the time they were hired, like in an orientation? If that's the case then they knew this from the get-go

Exactly the point I was talking about. I believe that is already covered in the employee handbook. I had the same thing when I worked contract at Texas Instruments. We had to agree to similar measures when we worked there. The clock stopped when we locked up the tool boxes. If it took 5 minutes to get outside, or 20, we didn't get paid.

I'd think the procedure, even if not outlined in the hiring process, would be immediate on first day including training on job, so I doubt there were any surprises.

Exactly. Now if this is some kind of new regulation that was instated without employee consent after they were hired then I can see a problem.

You guys probably aren't thinking about discussed time. Sure they can say "Hey on the way out you will get checked to make sure you aren't stealing nothing, should only take a few minutes" then come to realize that those few minutes are taking 30 minutes.

Regardless of minimum wage or whatever. I am hourly with incentive bonuses but I have worked minimum wages jobs when I was a kid before I found a career. I don't see where it is acceptable to take advantage of employees at any level of employment. Or if you are working a minimum wage job how it's ok to be taken advantage of.

I understand that. But if it's something that was already covered in an employee handbook or orientation and they consented to it then what else can they do if it states it in the employee guidelines?

Should be paid for, I'm sure they'll win the court decision also. I'm not 100% sure I think a big business should be paying employees who start work at 9AM to be on the clock at 845AM as they're standing in line to get to their station or desk, but definitely should be paid until the end of shift ends which IMO is when screening has concluded.

I do not think it is the intention of Amazon to take advantage of their employees and am sure if asked they would deny any claim.
I also feel the company's intention is not to keep them from their families or waste personal time.
Not knowing the complete facts but, I surly understand the company's position in thwarting theft. Like or dislike Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, etc.. and their business practices, the bottom line is criminals have stuck it in the ass of life as it was once known at the workplace and our homes.
As mentioned, I agree with the "Don't like it? Gtfo and enjoy Wal-Mart" train of thought.

I kind of think you are missing the point of Amazon having any incentive to properly staff the security screening. To amazon they can staff one security officer to screen 60 people coming off of a shift and why would they care how long it takes?

    Petty fucking lawsuits? :notsure:
Why wouldn't they care? Could be resolved with simple communication with the suits to improve efficiency. No?

Have we in fact established that the received, read and understand the handbook and that it is in fact, an enforceable policy when the employees are not being paid?

I work for a company that has more than 320,000 employees (33,000+ in my the city I work at) and none of my group has received or signed for an employee hand book. The book is searchable on line but, being paid or not paid while screening isn't addressed.

IMO, regardless of what the hand book may or may not say, making an employee do something without pay while consumer the employees time is wrong.

Wow all,I was being a bit dramatic to illustrate how most of us are tired of being shit on by big companies.so don't take me too seriously now. I have managed to live 40 years without shooting anyone in the face with my mod.20 :)

in all honesty I probably let em punch me in the face and then sue the shit out of them and change the name of the company to Eric's Amazon.:D

Naw man just blowin off some steam.obviously I'm being a bit facetious, and shooting someone in the face with a 10 millimeter is not a normal response to a request for a vehicle search.however once in awhile it would be nice to shit on their heads right back.know what I mean, jellybean?
