I forget if this was brought up before, but it says certain 2005-2008 models in the cold climate states. did they change the frame specs in 2009 or are they just going by age? i mean, is this something that is going to eventually happen to every model year or did they actually change something with the frame specifications?

I just read about a class action about the frame rust and I'm worried about participating because my frame definitely has issues but as of this date my vin is not included. Two things bother me 1. I might be added to the list in the future 2. I'm not crazy about coating my frame because I don't believe it's a viable solution. So if I joined the suit I would imagine Toyota would just say screw you your on your own. Confused?

Hey, so does this rust issue seem to occur more to the longer, access and dbl cabs, than the reg cab?

Frame coating method is up to the dealers discretion?
I am worried that I don't qualify for new and will get a shabby spray job

Got some info ... I took my vehicle in for service at my Central Ma Toyota Dealer.

    - There are several new frames in the back of the dealer.
    - The Dumpster was loaded with cut up frames. Some looked so so. Some looked terrible. A couple really bad/Rusted/Pitted drive shafts were there as well (also Cut up).
    - Many of the frames looked like, after they separated the body from the frames. that they took a torch to the frames. I.e., the A frames and other parts were cut off and not disassembled from the Frames. I assume they removed the keeper parts at the bench. A few R springs were cut as well leaving the ends and bushings still attached to the frame. I think this makes it much quicker to disassemble the frame and why I'm seeing here that A frames are being replaced ?
    - I talked to a service Guy - unofficially - for what it's worth .... Said frame coatings were changed AFTER 2012 (2013 on). Exact cut in date/Vin # was not known at the time. IT was not know When /if any other fixes to the frames were done.

SO000ooo, I'm going to Fluid film mine and hope for the best.

Again - This is what I found out and subject to verifications. (Negative responses -> Null).

They didn't give me one yet because the hole isn't big enough to worry about with the style of driving I do (no hauling or offroading). If the frame is rotten enough they will want to keep it there, but mine just wasn't that bad. I will get one once my frame comes in though...

nothing major, brush guard 265 tires, that's really about it. i've also por 15'd my frame twice now. its rusting from the inside out.

has anyone gotten their standard cab taken care of with this?

after looking through this document, my manufacture date is within the range, but my vin is not? i'm good on the 5te-the vds does not match mine, but i am within the vis range....confused....

AR31, where is the hole located, passenger side by converter? Is it obvious?

I just power washed my frame to prep for a coat of Fluid Film. I see everyone appears to be having rust through next to the cat. My 2012 has a c style frame there (bot boxed). The box frame starts just forward from the cat. Distance from the cat to the frame seems to be a few inches at least. Is everyone have holes by the cat having them in the C frame or Box Frame??

No it will be driver's side by the cat. Mine was pretty obvious, but until I did some further inspecting, I didn't realize just how large it was.

Had my inspection today, got a call about an hour after I left saying "yeaaaaa it's definitely going to get a new frame". No exact estimate on how long until my frame gets in, they claim anywhere from 1 to 3 months. Until then I'm rocking a new Corolla, but they're trying to get me into something larger. Loading deer carcasses into an out of a Corolla won't be as easy as my truck :)

I do not own a Tacoma, but joined to help out an older friend who doesn't have a computer but does own a 2006 Tacoma pickup with a rusted frame with holes in it. He took his to a Toyota dealer in the Elmira, NY area yesterday, & was told that his definitely qualifies for the frame replacement, as it will not pass the next NYS inspection due this coming January. New York IS now doing frame replacements, but not nearby Pennsylvania yet. (He is 5 miles from the PA border). They didn't give him a wait time yet, but he is thrilled about getting a new frame. They did say he would get a loaner vehicle, & he understood them to say they would also replace the springs & shocks, even though he had replaced them himself in the past. He is not sure about the rear bumper, but will have it replaced, even if he has to pay for it himself. He assumes it will cover new brake lines, etc., but forgot to ask. His VIN was also NOT on a Toyota recall list, as I checked for him. He has received no recall from Toyota ever, other than about the gas pedal, which they did by cutting off with a hacksaw, the bottom of the pedal, & he intends on going back to an original length one, if he can order one. It is my thinking, that putting in the VIN on the Toyota site will only involve official government mandated recalls, & NOT the Limited Service Campaign. I could be wrong. If your VIN does not show up, go to your dealer anyway!!! You have nothing to lose! He said that he probably wouldn't have done anything without my checking into things on his behalf. I also told him that while they had his truck, for the dealer to check on all other recalls it might need fixed. This web site deserves a lot of credit for what I have found out for him. Thank you commenters from both of us! Again, go to your dealer regardless if your VIN does not show up. Sorry this was so long, but hope it helps others.

nickonfire700, how does your 2005 frame look?
So I should be looking more towards the front of frame where it is boxed?
    Thanks!

Hi All, Hoping to get an answer on this, probably, simple question.

I Power washed my frame yesterday and could not remove the protective frame hole caps removed from the frame (i.e. behind the wheels in the front wheel wells and a few other places.) These are the plug Toyota added to help prevent water/salt/sand from getting in the box sections of the frame.

I Tried multiple plug locations and multiple times to pull the plugs out so I could power wash inside the box frame area. Although I could side these back in forth/around in the frame holes (meaning they were not stuck to the frame) I was afraid to pop these out because of the force I was using with a putty knife to try pop these out. Do these easily pop out without damaging them so I and reuse or they one time use plugs?? I did not want to destroy these .....
