it is...mostly geared towards kids but I like to go and see the birds up close :D plus they do have a few lectures and things for adults.

If all you did was take pictures, it'd still be neato. And it'd still be nice to hear something about the birds.

I have lots of pics from last year. Last year a different group brought in rehab-ed birds - there was a kestrel, saw whet, and a rough legged hawk. Sounds like the group this year will bring Bu the great horned owl...he's my favorite :(
Last year the director from the MT Owl Research Institute gave a lecture and it was really interesting. He talked about identifying different calls and which habitats would be owl friendly. He spent some time in the arctic studying snowy owls too.

Neat bird! Haven't seen one of those before! I just saw a video of broad-winged hawks kettling over Corpus Christie and it was just spectacular!

Speaking of migrants, we're just getting our white-crowned sparrows and yellow-rumped warblers coming in now! Most of them arrived just a few days ago. Exciting to see them again!

Nice shots! Can't wait to see some more!

That's crazy! The details in the youtube video show that the bird's been up and down in health but I guess he's eating again now and getting better!

    That's freaking amazing!

Pretty cool! Too bad you couldn't make it. I saw a news segment here in San Diego, I think, that featured the raptor center there, including Bu!

    Some backyard updates from me...

that's awesome that they're getting recognition all the way down there!

How can you not love Bu? Here he is getting a pedicure before an event...

Thanks, Ian! Yeah some of them are pretty neat. The best part is I can just watch from my bedroom window and see basically all of the backyard including the top of the hill, except for what's behind trees, of course. Super convenient!

 That's an awesome picture of Bu! Super adorable!

Hmmm are you the great gray owl whisperer? :notsure:

Speaking of bird strikes, we recorded our first Swainson's Thrush at our house this year under unfortunate circumstances. One struck the window and died a few days ago :(

I wonder too. I see this a lot in more remote areas where you might find a treat in the bushes :D

But I'm already the elk whisperer and the moose whisperer...can I be the owl whisperer too?

And it was sort of remote - lots of farmland nearby so I'm sure there's a healthy rodent population there keeping the owl fed. I just don't know why they have to fly right in front of the truck!

I hate seeing them on the side of the road too :( But if you can whisper to them, tell them not to fly so close :)

Just had a very large hawk in the bird bath right next to the house. Blue Jays were going nuts and couldn't believe it, went to get the camera and as soon as I moved in front of the window he flew off.

Really strong winds last weekend here sent lots of birds into Hwy 61 where they died by collisions with cars, and also buildings in Duluth. Lake Superior is the worlds largest fresh water lake and 61 is a 2 lane road that runs up the North Shore from Duluth. Most birds will not fly over such a large body of water so follow the shore line in the migration South. Last Saturday was the peak of the migration South. I leave in the morning for a week and will be going up 61 almost to the Canadian border before I head North toward the Boundary Water Canoe Area. Forecast is sunny and little wind, should be seeing a lot of songbirds and raptors.

Spotted a Common Merganser this weekend. Was expecting to see more ducks, geese and swans. Maybe migration is a little behind schedule this year. Lots of Canada geese everywhere, not much else.

Put a few new species in the books this past weekend. Finally, so,e birds are starting to migrate back through....most were seen in corpus christi, but i took a day trip down to Estero Llano Grande Park in Weslaco, tx. Highly rocomend this park to everyone. We saw a few over 60 species and we were only there till lunch time. Supposedly during spring they put up daily species counts over 100. The pouraque, and the chachalaca pics were taken from there. I thought id share with everyone.
