    This.

And obviously certain regions are required to put ethanol in the fuel during the winter months, which clearly sucks balls.

But all base fuel is the same (octane withstanding).

In spring/summer/fall I run a complete fuel system cleaner (BG44K or Lucas) every 3000 miles.

In winter I run it in every third tank of gas.

That's my additive for keeping my fuel system clean.

Ok, I was a Gas Jockey for a few years thru HS in the early '70s. Made a lot of good friends in that business. Back in the later '70s, Exxon in their Infinite wisdom cancelled ALL of the Franchise contracts with every Mom and Pop Full Service Gas stations in Texas. Some had been in business for over 50 years, did not matter, they were gone. That's where the Self Service Jiffy Mart thing came from. Final Straw is once again in the Late '70's In their Bean Counting ways they decided to charge you more per gallon of gas if you used a credit card to pay. I think it was 5 cents more. This had the exact opposite effect they were hoping for as "Nobody" was using them or buying their Gas. About 4 months later they scrapped that Idea and went back to being normal. Yet...I have a very long Memory, so I will never use them again. Even cancelled my card back then, never got another.

Oh, and Y'all are gonna hate on me, but I paid 2.99.9 per gallon fillin up yesterday at Texaco in Austin.

Under $3 would be very nice. The lowest I remember gas being was $.89, but even that was high because I lived in a secluded area. I'm waiting to run out so I can do one of those MPG avg. tests.

Yup. I was in Belgium fairly regularly in the early 2000's and gas was around $1.50 a liter or something like that. Way over $5 a U.S. gallon. Owning a car there is expensive!

Top Gear U.K. did a whole list of things more expensive than a gallon of gas. Put things in a little better perspective. Still think it should never exceed $2 gal., though.

We have Reservations/Pueblos all over here, and since they don't have to pay the taxes on the gas we did down into that same price range as well. Saw it about that price a day or so ago.

Shell or chevron for me no matter what.

...and never fill up your tank while the tanker is loading the underground tanks. No matter how clean the tanks are sediment is stirred up and ends up in your fuel system.

I have the best luck out of speedway gas. I dont know if those are well known across the U.S. Or not, but everytime i use gas from 7-11 or BP my mileage goes down and my engine pings. Its only speedway for me!!

My BIL services gas stations and truck stop pumps and tanks. He has to certify their tanks and their containers for leaks and contamination. He has told me on numerous occasions to only use QT or Shell, he has found their tanks to contain the least contamination. Oddly though, he will not use Shell for diesel fuel, he says that he has found algae several times.

I use QT exclusively locally and Shell when on the road and never any issues.

Chevron or Shell for me. Funny part is, up here anyway, it all comes from the same tanker truck. Chevron and Shell put the additives in, I think while their tanks are being filled, but not sure. I know it's all from the same tank truck because my son is the fuel station manager at our local Carrs/Safeway and he talks to the truck driver and pump technicians.

In my experience, Irving seems to be consistently very good as well. None around here, but as you get into Maine or New Hampshire, there are tons of them. Only 91 up there, though. Here premium is always 93.

Mostly Shell/Sunoco/Gulf here. There are one or two BPs, a few Mobils, and a few Citgos. No Chevron/Texaco around.

I won't use Shell but that's mostly politics. Shell is owned by a Venesuala company.

I was just guessing at the difference, maybe less. I haven't bought any in several weeks. I was stating I am convinced it is worth the difference for my lawn tools and such. My local place has all three grades of no ethanol.

I used this out in KS. I always got between 260-280 miles to the tank when using fuel with ethanol, and 300-320 when I use gas with out ethanol. Pretty good little tool to have handy if you don't like ethanol fuel.

Totally agree. Never fill up while they fill their tanks. I have even talked with a gas tanker driver and he mentioned the same thing. I try and always goto stations that are heavily used for I've found small stores usually don't sell their fuel as quick thus allowing condensation or worse to build up in the underground tanks.

I also run Shell or Chevron 93 Octane in all my vehicles. I know the Tacoma doesn't require it but imho it runs much better with it especially in the summer months where I experienced a slight engine knock with high temps and 87 octane.
