It'll cover the same amount whereas the other designs on here include one more bend which leaves a gap at both ends of the tailgate. Like I said, that final bend doesn't get you anything really other than looks and maybe a little more protection. I am open to suggestions on my design and once I get a picture uploaded installed it'll allow people to get a better look and constructive criticism.

The plastic piece does return down the exterior portion of the tailgate a bit , that's why I asked , and if you add a gasket thickness to the mix under your cap , how does your design cover the same amount as the OEM one without the additional bend ?

Gotcha, I am having a tough time explaining it. Once I get one done I will upload a picture installed for opinions.

I understand what you're asking and maybe what I have designed will be no good and that additional bend will be essential or popular. I was trying to make something different and more attractive. But once I have it installed, the popular vote might lean toward adding the final bend.

Looking into setting prices on parts so I need some serious input. We have a pretty good idea as to where we need to be.

What are you willing to pay for the following items:

    Soft Cap:
    Bed Rail Protection (Pair):
    Tailgate Skin:
    Tailgate Cap:
    Rock Sliders:

Dome light is turning into a nightmare. We are actively working on it but I am not offering any hints on dates yet.

A few similar products are already offered from other companies so we have a good idea as to where to be. We should be able to offer faster delivery dates than most.

    Edit:
Okay, I have some prices and this is assuming steel and not powdercoated. I would pay more for aluminum construction and more for powdercoating.
Bed Rail Protection (Pair): Around $150-$180 plus shipping.
Tailgate Skin and Cap: Around $150-$170 plus shipping.
The cap and sliders I have no idea as I have never been in the market for them. The reason I list the skin and cap as a pair is that if I were to buy one, I would just buy both. I listed prices a tad higher than others with the same product to give you some elbow room for startup costs. That, and if it looks better, I will buy it. The sale really goes to which one I want to look at on my truck.

Will the plastic piece be able to be put back over the top of the tailgate reinforcement?

    No.

Although, not a bad idea. I can think of a way to maybe make this work...

The steel/(aluminum?) reinforcement usually looks better anyway. I wouldn't want the OEM cap over it. That will also greatly reduced the size of the reinforcement, no?

Wouldn't really decrease the size or strength of the reinforcement. I see you requested aluminum and I considered it but for the minimal weight savings (we're talking 2-3 lbs on this product) compared to cost, it isn't worth it. Aluminum is about 30% more and to get the same strength as steel, I'd have to make it 25% thicker, at least.

It seems I should somewhat clarify my previous question. What I was inquiring about was not the long skinny cap for the tailgate being covered by the plastic but rather the larger tailgate "skin" as you call it, being covered by the oem plastic piece if I want to retain my original cap?

Oh, got it. My skin should fit under the plastic to retain the plastic piece on top. I will test fit once parts come in.
