new battery, need opinion

    hey all, i just found out today that my battery that came with the truck when i got it in may is a bad battery, its supposed to have 710 cca, and its putting out 459 cca, so im looking to get a new battery, im thinking optima yellow top, cause i plan on adding many accessories and lighting components to my truck, what do you all think?

    Optima is a good battery. I havent used a Yellow top one.

    i cant decide, there is a difference in price, but i eventually am going to run a winch, quite a few external lights, internal accessories, and i want the capacity to do that...

    oh and congrats on the promotion to moderator!

    The YellowTop would be just fine. It's a deep cycle, so you'll be ok.

    off the topic a bit.... are the batteries for a 2.7 and 4.0 the same size in inches? I'm wondering if my 2.7 battery holder would hold the higher CCA battery of the 4.0.

    some in cold areas have bigger one, on the v-6 only. Dont think its much difference though. sort of a micro-mangagement thing.

    ...trying to compare at the omptima site, their battery selector is going at 2 bytes per hour or something argh!

    I would run a yellow top myself and is what i run in most my vehicles.. For hardcore audio i run Kinetik power cells.. I am a pro in this field as I built many vehicles and power was my thing.. If you run alot of accesories remember that your alternator only puts out so much amperage.. If you run alot of stuff I would also consider upgrading the alternator.. A great company is Ohio generator.. they build knarly bullet proof alternators and stand behind their product.. I ran duals on my escalade and they held up perfect charging 8 batteries total.. my 2 cents

    yellow top stats : CCA 650, Crank amps 810, reserve 100, amp/hr 48 dimensions L 95/16" W6 3/4" H 7 5/8"
    if i can get the red ill edit this post
    Red is CCA 720, CA 910 , rsv 90, amp/hr 44 dimensions are the same.

    so the red is a better starting battery, the yellow has better reserve.

    btw you could also consider going with a larger than stock replacement battery to boost the numbers up.

    (edit) my I4 battery is group 24F , 581 CCA, and 125 reserve and no light so its discharged! For a summer of no real loads that ain't right.

    i got the yellow top, 620 cca, does just fine for starting here in colorado, its smaller than the stock HD battery but still will be just as good... and i ahve the towing package, so my alternator is big already
