So today.. I noticed something strange about the ABS killswitch mod that I did almost 3 years ago.. even with my ABS killswitch engaged (turning everything off).. traction control and or VSC kicked in coming around a corner.

does all that crap really linger in the background THAT much, even when supposedly off?

I know that when using the factory button, and you turn it off (hold for about 15 seconds) its SOMEWHAT off.. but is still there for anything over 30 MPH. Well I'm pretty sure I wasn't going 30 around the corner.

..and even then.. the killswitch mod should turn it COMPLETELY off.. since it tricks the ECU into thinking the rear is locked... and knows your "off-road"

Pretty sure this is at least one of the methods I used back in the day (have been searching threads to find the ones I used)

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...kill-switch-mod-05-offroad-easy-way-pics.html

Its been so long, I cant remember the details, but I think there was another write up, or a post at least, I referenced as well, possibly lost somewhere in one of the threads..

The problem is, there are so many variations of that mod. but for me.. it was the Locker variant.

I know its not a ground, because when I engage the killswitch (turning it all off) it lights up my ABS, VSC, and Locker indicators... (the same thing happens when I actually engage the Locker).. indicating "I am purposely going to be going off road truck.... calm you're tits" and it has always worked.. maybe the yaw was so great this time it kicked in regardless.

I did get it pretty damn sideways (accidentally, its raining here today) then it kicked in, grabbed and over corrected, and I had to correct it once again to get it straight.

so.. any input on this? this mod has worked flawlessly over the last 3 years.. and now this..

    Interesting

One point is that the VSC remains " off " above 30mph with the conventional way of turning the system off

Stop , hold VSC button till AUTO LSD light goes out leaving only VSC OFF lit

You turning it off that way ?

You sure it was the VSC and not just the sliding tires just finally finding something to bite?

    Gotta ask...

nope, using the ABS killswitch to turn it of (simple on/off toggle switch) as I dont even have the factory traction buttons installed on the truck anymore.

refresh my memory.. which one was that? I have heard of it, but I think I used the method I posted. Like I said, its been years :(

Definitely not. I heard and felt the infamous beeping and braking of the traction aids.

I have the ABS kill switch method of tricking the computers into thinking the rear locker is locked thus disabling everything. (the method you linked to)

I have had my bitch sliding sidways all 4 locked up, drifting shit, doughnuts etc at 30+ mph and never had vsc kick in when it normally would. Recheck the mod make sure its making proper connection.

The ABS light, locker light, trac and vsc will light up

I know this.. like I said, they were lit up. I have been using this mod for 3 years now, and I drive with the killswitch enabled 90% of the time. I'm used to seeing those lights on the dash.. so thats why it was surprising when it kicked in.

yeah thats just weird, about the only thing i could think, is the truck was going.... OH SHIT hes about to roll it, let me try to intervene... and at that point i wonder if turning off RSCA would of made it not kick in.

i find the VSC on these trucks interesting, i think it has been tuned differently over the years. I run billies at 1.75 w/ stock TRD OR coils in the front, 2 inch AAL on the 3+1 leaf pack out back, and NO SWAY BAR .... and only ever have the VSC kick in when it actually should. this is on my 2013.

My buddy on the other hand on his 2011 with a similarish lift originally WITH a sway bar, had issues here and there if he entered a driveway wrong.

    RSCA only controls the airbags

I was actually thinking that.. no sway bar, plus Kings, and some serious left hand turn/body roll action might have tripped it.. but Idk if that activates the traction aids.

    we sure about that?

I could see them writing it in if they sense the truck is in an EXTREME slide with serious body roll to throw in some traction control to try and make it not roll.

I am overall rather impressed with the VSC / traction control on my 2013, it kicks in only when it should and not randomly even after lifting and no sway bar.
