The difference in color stands out too.
The DF is red by comparison where the pine is yellowish white.

Yeah , that 's pretty normal , I'll assume the studs are solid

That's weird you have that dimension discrepency

Your inspector has zero liability for anything, I've seen more homes with very obvious deficiencies that passed inspections. Keep that in mind.

And your lumber size difference may create issues with drywall. If its a consistent problem consider packing out the wall studs with luan or other sheet goods in strips. The flatter you make the walls the better the drywall will come out with less time.

Well that one is done. 2 more uppers 8 more doors ( four with glass) and 3 drawer faces left to build and all I have left is wtf to use for a countertop. Oh and crown baseboard trim and winebottle and glass holders... This is why I shouldn't have free run of plans for my own projects.

Jealous. It's on my "to do" list, with separate lines for the workshop and the rest of the garage, but I haven't gotten around to actually doing it yet (mostly because pipe = $$)

Headlights on my tractor are useless with the front loader on. They only light up the back of the bucket unless it's on the ground or 5 feet up. So clearing snow from the driveway when it's dark before I leave for work, and by the time I get home at 5 was going to be a problem. Not to mention backing it into my shed that doesn't have any lights, or even my barn when the light doesn't work. So I added a 24" light bar and 2 2x3" pod lights to the top of the ROP. I'm waiting on a couple magnets to arrive so I can drill holes for them, paint the angle iron, and then get everything mounted and zip tied.

But for now at least it's ready for testing!

This should also open up being able to work later on projects if needed and not having to stop when the sun starts going down.

    That should work REALLY well!

I've been thinking about a 12" led bar on a snowblower.

so who knows about wood stoves?

my roommate's dad stopped by with a nice wood stove and offered it to me for $100. I've been keeping an eye out for one anyway so it really worked out great.

I just dont know where/how to install it. I have a 1400sqft ranch and the living room and dining room really do not have any extra space to install a wood stove so that pushes it to the basement. From what I've been reading, a basement isn't a great spot for a wood stove and i'll possibly have to cut grates in the floor to allow heat to flow up into the house.

I have a chimney that used to be the vent for my old oil furnace but the new gas furnace is direct vent through the wall into the back yard. So I'm thinking wow that works out great, just put the wood stove in the basement and pop a hole in the chimney, hook up the pipes that came with the wood stove, cement the pipe into the hole in the chimney, bam! done!

but its looking like I need to have the chimney liner inspected (if there even is a liner) or just install a new liner. one website has them for around $500 plus shipping.

I'll definitely have to stop and talk to the guys at my local fireplace/woodstove shop and see what they say. I'd really like to just hook it up to the existing chimney and be done real cheap.

    Anyone have any experience?

    Thanks in advance.

    edit:
the other thing I was thinking, if its not going to heat the house much by having it in the basement. Would be to put it in the garage and use a through the wall chimney like this- http://www.homedepot.com/p/DuraVent...all-Chimney-Stove-Vent-Kit-6DP-KTTW/100180192

its a small garage and very crowded as it is, so adding a wood stove isn't necessary, but I have been thinking of adding a ventless gas heater.

I put a pellet stove in our main living room. It radiates heat at over 320F from 3 sides, plus has a fan blowing air over the firebox. This stove heats the living room to about 80F during the winter, and then that air heats the rest of the house. Floor of the bedroom above are warm and thus warm that room. Stairwell next to the living room allows warm air to rise upstairs for those bedrooms. We installed a through-wall fan last year to help get air moving in a circular pattern around the first floor to help distribute heat more evenly (living room 80, downstairs bedroom 65, upstairs 65).

But I'll tell you, this still keeps the house warmer than our "top of the line" Buderus oil burner and baseboard radiators! We kept the thermostat upstairs at 60 to help save fuel, and had the downstairs reduce temps from 68 to 60 during the day when we were at work. This with a house built in 1850 that has about 5000cfm of leaks according to the energy audit done this week.

So while it won't heat as well being in the basement, heat rises. And if it makes your basement hot, that should in turn heat the floors which would act like radiant floor heating. I wouldn't suggest that location for a 2 story house though. :D If you install some vents or fans to move air around that would work even better.

So to recap, our bedroom stays around 65 with the pellet stove 1 floor below. Oil would do 60 upstairs and 68 downstairs, but cost us $2500/yr. The pellets cost $1,000/yr at most. Less money, higher temps, and just need some tweaking for better airflow/distribution.

So if you have a cheap wood stove, minimal cost/time to install, and cheap/free supply of fuel why not give it a shot?

Basement works fine for a woodstove but you need a certified installer to check out your chimney , stove and anything else related to the install plus you need to inform your house insurer

I prefer pellets as well. We heat solely with pellets and burn about 3 tons/yr.
Cheap stove, easy install, free supply it would be a good supplemental heat source. My pellet stove was supposed to be a supplement but I found it could do the whole job.

    thanks guys.

hadn't thought about the insurance company, but now that you mention it i remember them asking if the house has a wood stove or fireplace.

it's looking like I'll just install a new liner that way I don't have to worry about it.

Also, my friend has a small wood stove in his basement. One story house, and it's his main heat source. He has a couple propane fireplaces, one on each floor, that he can use to even out heating, run off a thermostat if he'll be gone for a while, or just use when it's not worth lighting a fire.

He forgot to open the exhaust damper and close down the intake one night when he was trying to get it going, and damn near sweat himself out of the house! It was 80+ upstairs and the stove was damn near glowing red. Concrete floor in the basement held heat for at least a day after that!

The only thing he's done to help is cut floor vents and use a fan in one of them to blow warm air up or pull cool air down (forget which way he has it).
