I have a 2007 TRD Off-Road 4x4. I just noticed that one of my HVAC controls backlight bulbs is toast. I know it's no big deal to replace, but then I noticed the 4x4 switch isn't lit up and the buttons to the left of the steering wheel are also not lit. I just can't remember if these other items were ever lit in the first place.

So, does the 4X4 rotary switch and buttons on the left ( i.e. diff. lock, mirror controls) have backlighting? The fog light button is lit, but nothing else.

Think again....bulbs in the HVAC control pod are not as 'simple' as you'd think. Plus - it might not be the bulbs vs a loose connection. I've tried to take the pod apart and can't even get to the bulbs (for fear of F'n something else up).

I had to replace my entire HVAC control panel with a used one.

My HVAC lighting wasn't working either. So - one day, I'm leaving work and my truck wouldn't start. I heard popping & cracking in the dash area (HVAC controls). Jumped the truck, got home. Took out the HVAC pod and discovered burnt connections at the plug. Cleaned out the connections and added dialelectric grease to get it 'functional'. To be on the safe side - I just ordered another one (used) for $100. It's been fine ever since.

I actually sent my bad one to a TacomaWorld vendor so they could take the thing apart and figure out some 'fixes'. But I won't say 'who' - they'll chime in when they're ready.

Thanks Janster, but I've already taken the bulb out so I can match it up with a new one. It is an odd looking thing, but came out easily. I'm sure it is a dealer-only item.

Ouch! Toyota is proud of them things. $11 for a tiny little bulb at the dealer. The regular auto parts stores didn't carry them. Was going to replace both since I had the dash apart, but couldn't make myself pull the trigger on 2 bulbs. As always, thanks for the help.
