It's worth the trip to Maine just for all of the microbrews! They're everywhere; seems like over the last 10-15 years they're popped up like mushrooms after a rainstorm. Which is fine with me; I like a good craft beer.

    As for Mass....Meh.

Yeah, I'm not too sure if I'd go back to Mass again or not. As a young kid I lived in Rockport & Gloucester(briefly). I did forget that my extended family also lived in Ellsworth at one point as well. I do like a good beer every once in a while....

I'd love to drive my truck around out there but...I don't want to put the miles on it nor do I want to spend that much money on gas. Not to mention how much time it would take to drive out there.. haha

Thread needs a revival. We are now officially 6 days into the 2014 bird season. Has anyone been out? Any one had any Luck? If it isn't a secret, then what areas have you been hunting in?

Friday I hunted around home and got three. Saturday my uncle and I went up to the Allagash and we got six between us. Sunday afternoon I got three more. In total I have seen 23 birds so far.

I'm hoping to head up to Presque Isle/Ashland area this coming weekend. My nephew went twice with my brother-in-law and both days they each tagged out before 11:00am. My brother-in-law said it was the best bird hunting he has had in years.

Have not been out yet; hoping to go out early on Saturday before the GF and I leave for NH for the weekend. My problem is that I work 7-5:30 through the week, and where I bird hunt is 30 minutes away from where I live. Just doesn't seem worth it to go out during the week now that the sun sets at 6:15 and it's DARK by 7. I'd get there, get in maybe 30 minutes of hunting, and walk back to the truck in the dark.

Do you guys hunt dirt roads, use a dog, just walk the woods? Wondering what you think is most effective in your area.

I hunt on foot for partridge, typically in an area that's been cut over sometime in the last 5 years or so where there's mixed habitat. Always had good luck that way. Tried training my dog to course, but found out very quickly that she's terrified of gunshots, so that was a short-lived experiment.
That being said, if I'm driving in or out and I flush one along the woods road, you can be damn sure that I'm pulling over, loading up, and going to find it.

I live next to a 6,000 acre state wild life area and I all ways know when duck season opens it resembles artillery practice something I can't sleep through. I usually get up and go sit with the game wardens and watch the guys try to shoot ducks 50-60 yards out needless to say they don't check in many ducks opening day. After a few days the majority of them go away and the duck hunters come in. It's easy to tell instead of 3 (or some times more) shots I'll usually only hear one so they either got their duck or had enough sense to realize they couldn't.

I think next year I am gonna try duck hunting. I've only got one projectartridge back when I was 10. Trying to get back into hunting. Been busy the last 17 years ha ha. Hopefully there is a nice size buck in the back of the taco this year.

"one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong...."

Nice! Where'd he bag those? (A town will suffice if it's a secret hunting spot; I can get by with a county if it's a SUPER secret spot)

It looks kind of like a spot I hunt on Cobbossee stream.

Heh. It does seem funny to me too, but I know a guy who has a 'super secret hunting spot' that's SO secret that all he'll tell anybody who asks is that it's "up in The County" which narrows it down to around 7,000 square miles. Or Connecticut plus Rhode Island, haha!

Don't know why he keeps it so secret, either. The guy hasn't gotten a deer in probably 4 years.
