I'd kill for this along with side rail caps too! Maybe one day.

Quick question that I've been wanting to ask. How about a powder coated sheet to go under the plastic tailgate inner cover? That would be an awesome combination with the cap to give a little more stability to the tailgate when loading stuff...

Oh, and I'm in as soon as I can save up the cash! The caps look awesome!

You'd be surprised how little strength flat sheet metal has until you put a bend in it.

Ok, so the plastic is better? At least metal dents or bends instead of breaking or puncturing too easily. I don't mean to be sarcastic but really, Toyota didn't give much attention to the strength of the tailgate...

Still sub'd. I'll order one when I have the extra funds...

    No, they really didn't.

I see Taco's with bent tailgates all the time, now that I'm looking for them.

I just wanted to make sure that you don't think that I'm trying to start something. I just wanted to make a suggestion and see if there is a way that you might have a potential solution.

I guess if you read it right I'm trying to sell myself something else

I'm still in for the cap as soon as I can but, it would be kind of nice to find a simple solution to the flimsy plastic on the surface of the gate too. I'd rather have a piece of metal under the plastic so that I don't inadvertently puncture the liner material trying to load something...

The caps and bed brackets look awesome! They're on the top of my ever growing list... :D

KB Voodoo, Do you happen to have a large press? Was thinking this would be a means placing a fold in the metal for an inner tail gate skin.

I hear your cries for a full tailgate reinforcement, but Relentless already makes that, and I'm not looking to step on any toes.

I also feel that a thin sheet of steel wouldn't offer much strength. Flat sheet metal is like a wet noodle.

It's not plastic. The top cap is, but the ribbed tailgate inside face piece is not.

Precisely why I was asking... I think your cap looks better. Oh well, nothing like pushing customers away!!!

I appreciate the honesty and integrity, I really do. However, I have looked and done my looking around and I'm the one that came here and asked. If I don't like the look of a competitors product then I go elsewhere; plain and simple. It's my hard earned money and I'll spend it how I want to.

Please let me rant just a second without taking offense...
    _________________________________________________________
As a consumer I feel that I have a right to get what I want for my truck. Don't get me started but much of what is wrong in today's society is that we can't say and do as we please without feeling like we're hurting someone else's feelings. Look at the men of the WWII generation and before... Those were real men! They didn't always agree or get along but, they respected each others opinions or took care of their issues among themselves. Why can't we be like that anymore? Truly those were the greatest generations. I'm sorry, I'll discipline my kids how the Holy Bible says, give my son a knife when he's 6 or 7, and maybe start teaching him gun safety and how to shoot about then too. Oh, and did I mention that I shave with a straight razor? All of this stepping on toes and safety crap is just that. Heck yeah, I expect the coffee that I order at a drive thru to be HOT and I don't need some stupid idiot telling me that it is on the freakin' cup!
    _________________________________________________________
    End pointless rant.

Now, that being said. I respect your opinion and understand the issues. I'll move along and find a different solution. Honestly, this is just a every once and a while Lowes/Home Depot run truck anyways and the tailgate even stays up 99.9% of the time with nothing in the bed. I'm a Southern, Christian, Country Farm Boy born and bred and I just hate the flimsy freakin' tailgate on this thing.

No disrespect intended... Mod's feel free to delete this post if you think it will hurt someones tender feelings!

I'll try to make myself more clear:

#1 - Relentless already makes a full tailgate reinforcement. I'm not going to steal his thunder.

#2 - This is a side project for me. I have a full time job, a family, pets, and property to take care of. At the present time, I'm not looking to add any more to my plate. The bed brackets and the simple, but effective, tailgate cap are more than enough right now.

#3 - In order to make any profit at all, you have to make these things in large batches. I don't think there is enough demand for a full tailgate skin to warrant that. Combine that with more expensive shipping, and I think I'd end up with a basement full of these things that I can't sell.

    Sorry I'm pushing you away.....

Many people have stated that they can't believe how much my cap stiffens up our tailgates. Try one yourself, I guarantee you'll be satisfied.

I hear you on this! I do woodworking on the side. I make a bunch of stuff and sell them at craft shows around the area. I never take orders because I can never guarantee when I would be able to fulfill them. I typically make more of what seems to be popular...that's about as close to taking "orders" as I get.

Anyway OP....I may be PMing you for some bed brackets in the coming weeks!

Looks great.. I think it would make my tonneau cover close better too... I had to slide it back to accommodate my rack so there is a little extra overhang on it. I also think that the gasket material being flexible is going to offer a lot more protection that bare metal against metal would. The "right to be a consumer" bit from proavgeek cracked me up... That's how the free market works. If people like it, they buy it... if one does not like something, they shouldn't buy it. I just love how people think some part of $80 is going to make anyone bend over backwards so they don't lose one sale.. you are on the right track KB Voodoo. take care of yourself and your family.
