Yeah that's really stuffing them up there, but you're right, unless you have fiberglass fenders they're gonna rub

With trimming but trimming means you had rubbing issues. I believe the statement was 265/70/17s are the largest you can fit without rubbing issues. Which is true but you will still rub your mud flaps alittle. Ask me how I know.

Here is my truck the day after I bought it. The 2014 came out friday. I got mine saturday and it looked like this sunday morning. Not a whole lot of room in the fender area with 265/70/17s and I already had lost a mud flap so I took them off.

obviously you never flex your truck...

i know my buddy on his 2011 runs 285/75R16's and has had to do cab mount chop, hammer the pinch weld, remove inner fenders and is now running glass fenders.... and he still rubs on the cab mount (and this is on stock TX baja rims).

But hey, ya know, first hand experience definitely doesnt count.

Like stated, 265/75R16 265/70R17 is about as big as you can go before rubbing.... the amount of rubbing you will get beyond that size depends on the tire / rim / lift combo.
