Well, I don't want this to be misunderstood, or sound mean, but I think it looks like "H", a big mess. not sure what part of the world you live in, but if you are in the snow/ice belt I think that coating would do nothing more than create places for salt & grime to accumulate. I hope it works, but I am not sure I would go that route. jmop (& no offence meant)

Thanks PeteH, I saw your pics and your before frame looked pretty darn clean!
DocD, I do live in Northeast Ohio where we use a lot of salt. My frame has ben rusty since day one. I don't think I am eligible for frame replacement but will do the coating. I hope I pick a shop that will do there best and not skip the prep work!

had it done on an 02. It was a filthy mess changing oil for about 2 years afterward. Came out grimy from crawling underneath and coating spotted the drive in a few places.

I am a regular cab. I did not receive a letter. I just happened to look on toyota website after reading about leaf springs. I have been looking to upgrade suspension and got excited about new springs in back. I typed in number and it stated I have a safety notice or something. I just went out and looked at boxed frame portion after spending a couple hours focusing on c part of frame. Low and behold I have a rust hole there! Feels like i may have hit the lotto!

This is the nastiest black goo I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure this is the stuff they used when making the X-Files episodes with the black sludge from outer space that possessed Krycek.

Also, I seem to remember the Toyota instructions saying to coat the just frame, not everything that was originally covered in black paint. Someone trying to make things fun when the leaf spring recall gets done later? I know it'll be interesting when I pull that transmission out soon.

    Some pics

I cleaned up the alternator and starter a bit after those pics. Carb cleaner on a rag easily takes it right off.

The Dayco fan belt squealed constantly like a stuck pig all the way home. Ticked me off. The overspray killed it; even though the carb cleaner got the goo off the pulleys and fan, the belt could not be salvaged. It still squealed. No love lost, that belt was a POS anyways from the get-go. Factory belt 140k miles old is back on again until I give Toyota the $113 to order me another one.

    Side note:

Proof that Toyota needs a newer V6 in the Tacoma. This was my average for the 170 miles I put on the loaner '15 Highlander 3.5L they gave me. That car was fast as heck too.

Fyi , @ dealer I saw 2006 for sale with coating. Didn't look great, prep work seemed " hurried". Sanding, brushing and scraping in service needed for techs here! Consolation is 18k asking price

Sorry to hear that. On mine, they only coated the frame and didn't spray the suspension, engine, rear axle, etc...

    Sucks about the fan belt....
