So there's both a Chevy & Yota dealer in my town, of which I have to pass daily while working. Well I still haven't received my plates yet on my '14 TRD-OR, so my truck still looks brand new on the road.

As I passed the Chevy dealer minding my own business, I can see a burgundy truck/ SUV looking thing flying up in my rear view. Well got to the next light and it's some douche bag test driving the new Colorado. Looked like a dark red, fully loaded AC version, Z71. Could not tell you what motor it had in it, but the driver was desperately trying to bait me into stop light shinanigans.

I promptly declined which only made him more mad (started racing the engine, and inching forward etc..) not that I would have engaged in this activity (as I'm way past that point in my life) but I also had about 400-500 lbs against me in the box.

Anyway, whole point of this thread, get ready boys and girls, these new Colorado owners are going to be trying to show off when they see us on the road. If I didn't have all the crap in my box, I would have offered to have him follow my OR to the nearest trail, and see if he could keep up with out ripping his front bumper or air dam off that thing.

Not going to lie, I would NEVER own one, but it looked better out on the road and in person than all of the pics I've seen on the internet. This will be a popular truck.

I like you. But does it really matter?

Driving a Tacoma doesn't have to be like participating in a circle jerk. Other vehicles on the road worth driving, and the Tacoma isn't heads and shoulders above any of them.

No doesn't matter at all, just kind of weird coming to a light in a plain old stock Taco, and some dude wants to seriously challenge it. I've had six 2nd gens and never once had that happen before LOL.

I could almost read the salesmans lips (truck still had dealer window sticker on glass) as he appeared to be making a comparison to his client about my Tacoma.

Just funny more than anything, these guys are really going to think they have something special for awhile. And like I said, I will give it that... It is a nice looking truck on the road, has great presence for sure.

There will be quite a few older folks who buy these, but younger owners are going to be baiting Tacos every chance they can.

Well thats gonna happen with any car the kids drive. In the past I've had someone rev up their multi-colored dodge neon at a red light trying to get me to race. Which the taco won by a longshot.

Oh Jesus! I wish we had the younger more fun version of Poolio instead of this mature version. I find it very odd some young kid would be allowed to driving like you said during a test drive.

Are you serious or are you drunk? If your serious I think you may need to stay out of the sun and away from the pool chemicals for a few days.

Chevy put a lock down on selling them. It may be a while before you actually see one on the road. They have to fix them before they even leave the lot.

It was definitely the new Colorado, and yes I remember reading about the recall etc. If need be I can go back to said dealer and probably find the truck on their lot and snap a pic. Would have got a pic of this thing, but the whole ordeal went down to quickly.

I couldn't exactly tell, but it very well could have been the lot kid taking the truck for a "Hot lap" as well. At the next intersection, they pulled into the gas station that Chevy dealer uses to fuel their vehicles.

You know guy, I have purchased 3/24 vehicles since driving age, by stopping and looking at vehicles I had zero intent to buy. Actually acquired my '88 Porsche Carrera 3.2 that way, was odd seeing a 20+ year old car sitting on the front line of a new Porsche dealer. So I pulled in with no intent to buy it, salesman actually asked me "Do you want to take it for a joy ride?" When I got back, monies exchanged hands.

So your comment is not valid. Regardless if it's smart or not to do so, not every car buyer spends months or even years researching and making spreadsheets prior to pulling the trigger. Sometimes it's just that the planets are aligned and the opportunity is ripe.

Bought this Bevis while I was scratching my ass one day, and decided to "Waste the dealers time".

Ok, trying to figure out how to post pics from damn I-phone to TW? But I just dropped my youngest off at daycare, and headed down the street to the Chevy store (about two miles away) sure enough they had the Colorado I saw last night that wanted to challenge Le Tacoma.

Anyway, I could not drive it as it was on the ramp or front of building blocked in by a dozen other new cars. But the salesman there did say if I made an appointment later with him, he would ensure it would be out and ready for a demo (no thanks) but I may still take them up on it.

I did get to put the key in, and play with all the features and infotainment. First comment, I'm not sure if it's an illusion, but this thing feels about 2" higher than my stock '14 Off Road from the driver seat. However it is still clear there is more clearance under the belly of the Tacoma.
    Z712_zps5df7d0e2_f3e74063e3127834abe0f78a004f78e07229732c.jpg

When I got back in my Tacoma, I literally felt like I was getting into a lowered truck by comparison, the Seating position in the Colorado is much more commanding for sure. My Tacoma had a much more claustrophobic feel to it when I got back in, as if all the dash stuff was right in my face.

The Colorado from the front seat area, reminds me of what the space was like in the 1st gen Tundra as an example. While the materials are not amazing, they do look better and are more modern (as they should) over the Tacoma. The seats, much better than my '14 Sport seats, and feel much more supportive but aren't sublime by any means. Again the seating position is more "chair like" and less Corvette like (with your legs straight out) as in our 2nd gens. Some may like that, some may not.

The touch screen in this thing rocks, it's larger and looks like it is better integrated than ours, like it was designed for the Colorado's interior theme, and not a corporate-wide afterthought like ours. Entune is still very nice for what it is, but the graphics are fuzzy, dificult to scroll through with all the hidden layers and features, and the character font is way too small and hard to read.

The display on the Chevy, reminds me of an apple product in a way, for better or worse. The sound system seems more boomy, and powerful compared to my JBL, but not as clear and seems more muffled or hollow in the mid range (I'm no audiophile though)

The overall switchgear is well thought out, but some of the buttons and levers still feel like 80's-90's era GM mediocre. Albeit simple in the Tacoma, and put in some questionable and hard to reach or see locations (Atrac button and Locker button etc...I'm Looking at you) they have a more premium and tactical feel in the Tacoma.

There were a few bonus items that will win over Tacoma lovers, the rear seat area is small, and probably close or the same size as our Double Cab versions, but there is a built in 12v plug, a rear cab light, a seriously durable tailgate, with soft close feature. Again I will not be trading in my '14 anytime soon, but I was extremely impressed with the new Colorado after seeing it up close and in person.

I used to work at the GM dealerships, and the one thing that I liked most about being a tech there is that GM spends a TON of time and money on making the service and repair manuals that the techs us to be very user friendly. The wiring diagrams are the best I have EVER seen in comparison to other manufacturers, and the basic procedure to diagnose things like trouble codes is simplistic enough to follow for anyone, even if you are not familiar at ALL with GM products.

That being said, I have always been a fan of Toyota products. I have owned many different brands to include Ford, Dodge/Chrysler, Nissan, GM, etc. Of all of them, Toyota has been my favorite to OWN, and GM has been my favorite for when something needs to be fixed. I love my Tacoma, but I do agree that the new Colorado will bring in some fresh bodies to the truck world, and some converts. Face it, while the Tacoma is a great truck, EVERYONE knows they have frame issues, shitty ABS systems, driveline vibrations, etc. Many people who have become tired of dealing with these issues may jump ship and try their hand at a new vehicle. Some may like it, and some may hate it. Personally I think the front end is UGLY as all sin. I actually wish best of luck to GM with this new truck. They really do need something to help them out.

Something else to consider, almost everyone here on TW seems to have a modified truck (except me) but that's because Tacoma's and Toyota trucks in general have an exceptionally generous aftermarket to pull from, even Toyota as an OEM backs and supports performance parts for our trucks through TRD.

There was almost zero aftermarket for the previous Colorado (Although everything that bolted to an H3 worked on a Colorado) so many owners used lifts and upgrades that worked for those.

I simply doubt there will be as thriving of an aftermarket for decent parts for these things, beyond the obvious spacer and block lift kits Pep Boys will offer for these.

Again though I welcome the new competition, I'm eager to get some behind the wheel time, and I'm looking forward to seeing them on the road, but I will not be leaving Toyota for one in the near future.

Oh by the way, the Colorado in my photo, was a fully loaded Z71, Crew Cab, Long bed (No leather) and stickered for $36,670. Then had a $1600 dealer added "Market adjustment" add on fee  That was about $100 more than my 2014, TRD-OR with every option possible for an Off-Road stickered for.
