^This. There was a wreck 2 days ago in Hillsboro. A mom and dad with a 3 month old were hit head on by someone under the influence. My wife grew up there and grew up with the dad. Our daughters are 1 month apart exactly. The dad had to have reconstructive ankle surgery and that was it. Their 3 month old daughter has a broken tibula and femur. The mom had a lot of internal damage and had to have 7 surgeries. They are all recovering well and I pray the same goes for your niece and the other girls involved.

I also had to see the crash first hand on my way to the hospital. I did not want to see that. We were rushing to the hospital when my parents called me. We did not know where or how it happened. Just that she was in a wreck and she is bad. On our way there we saw all the lights. I never cried so hard as I drove by that wreck and saw what the vehicle looked like. Kids shoes and other crap all thrown around it. Well, yes I have cried harder... when I first saw Naomi in the hospital and how she looked.

Hardest things I've ever had to deal with in my whole life.

My parents had to drive by it as well. I can only imagine the even deeper pain they felt, considering what I felt.

I am just so thankful she is pulling through. I cant thank you all enough for the support and kindness you have shown.

I lost a very close and dear friend when I was in high school to a drunk driver. So understand that I can feel your pain, and your anger. I am not going to sit here and tell you to forgive the man at this point, or not be angry or upset. I will say that in my opinion, you should reflect on her still being alive, and her fighting. Let the anger at this man be the last thing in your mind. When you pass by that place, send out prayers for the little girl who died, and to those who survived. Ask God for the strength to be strong for Naomi. I am willing to bet she would want you to. She is going to need an uncle who is there for her, and will be there whenever she needs him. Her parents (YOUR family) will need you to be strong for them all. So when you pass by that spot, smile for love. Don't let anger take control. Look at that smile on her face in the main photo. Think of THAT.

On a side note from this, I wanted to let you know that the sales of the bearings are actually better than I expected at this time, so the donation upcoming will be a bit more than I had expected. We are already at $130 above the initial $100 already sent. I can only hope that this will in some way help with the short term and long term costs. God bless you, OP, and your family.

I just lost a good customer and friend to a drunk driver on Labor day. He and his son were out riding their bikes talking about his sons upcoming wedding the following Saturday. He was hit from behind and died in route to Hospital. His son witnessed the whole thing. I had known Mike for 15yrs. Such a good man and father. To see his family at the funeral was so hard....
Accidents like these are so easily avoided. If someone would have just taken the keys away from the drunks.. My friend would still be alive and your niece would be having fun and not fighting for her life...

I hope and pray that you and your family are holding up well. No one deserves to go through what you all are going through. I hope that this week may be better than last week. Sounds like there are reasons to be optimistic about her recovery.

Thank you for those words. You are right.

We greatly appreciate what you are doing with the donations. Thank you.

I just found out the critical 10 year old has been dropped down to serious. That is great news. I think Naomi will be considered critical until she is off life support. Until she can use her lungs on her own.

Thanks guys. Just talking about it all definitely helps. Hearing similar stories, words of wisdom, encouragement, prayers, thoughts, etc... She has been making great progress. I know she will keep it up.

Hope she's doing even better this evening.

    And :pray:bump.

I have zero tolerance for drunk drivers in the first place but to not only risk his own life he drags in a bunch of kids?!?! Unbelievable....I wish your niece - your entire family - the best and hope that every day things look just a little bit brighter. I'm sure she will have a long recovery ahead of her and need your support along the way. Just keep positive and be thankful for any improvement in her condition, no matter how small.

    Well put.
Good news about the little 10 year old, that springs hope for good things to come for Naomi. I feel like she's gonna be fine, but it's gonna take time of course.
I second what Bill was saying about everything, but especially don't let anger towards the foolish actions of the guy poision your thoughts. And I encourage if that comes up while your around any family, be one to say lets not hold anger towards him, but give thanks and praise to God she's still with us. Stay positive and keep positive thoughts and thanks. I feel like that will bring more blessings.
It's easy in a time like that to harbor anger or even hate towards someone.. But remember as foolish, dumb, and irresponsible as the guy was and other adults who played a role in letting him drive.. He is human, if he isn't feeling absolutely sick about what he did, he's sick in the head, but I bet he feels horrible and I'd hate to be in his shoes. I'm not taking up for him, and a definitely don't like drunk drivers. Understand.

My thought is try and clear thoughts of poision and fill full of thanks and praise. When Naomi becomes more alert to all of you, let her be awakened to a family of love and happieness that's she's still round.. It will be a new begining for her in a lot of ways, bc of such a traumatic event, life as she knew it will be a bit different than before... But that can be a good thing, one to start living around a newly formed sense of unity in the family and take on life. But fill it full of positive vibes. I'm not sure of your beliefs, but I would encourage you and your family surround her in group prayer.
Hoping and praying for the best for her and the girl and fam.

    Some more good news!

Her lung is healing and even surprised the docs. They called off the surgery to remove the part of her lobe!

Her fever is gone for now.

Taking 1 of her chest tubes out today or tomorrow and the others later.

Taking out her stomach stitches and her ecmo stitches.

Will be doing an MRI on her today or tomorrow to look at her spine fractures again.

She is a sneaky girl though. She pulled her trachea tube out, not her throat, but the air tube that goes to the piece in her throat. No biggy I guess, but want her to stop haha.

She has arm restraints on but she is smart. She slid her self down in the bed to get more range of motion of her arms apparently. And on top of the trachea tube, she also pulled out a tube going into her stomach! Ugh. Docs so no biggy and are fine with keeping it out. Was just for stomach acid or something.. dont need it anymore they said.

She is becoming more herself every day. She puckered her lips and blew my/her mom a kiss. So sweet.

She motioned to the docs that she wasnt breathing too good. They had to turn up the ventilator and she gave the thumbs up that it was better. So still a road to go for her lungs to breath on her own, but she is making miracle strides. Cant believe how well and fast she is doing.

Physical therapy and the blood thinners are working on the clots. Those should be gone in no time.
