Thanks all for replying. As much as I like the look of the Prerunner I'd sure be swearin like a bitch if I slid off the hwy and couldnt drive out. I got my eye on that 2008 DCSB 4x4 on the dealer lot. First snow here in Winnipeg might only be a month away. Farmers Almanac for here says real cold and lots of snow this year too.

The thing about buying a Tacoma with 4 wheel drive is that you will never lose a dime paying for it. When you go to sell you will recoup that money 100%. You also open up the market on your used vehicle because many people will never buy a 2 wheel drive truck. It is 100% worth the initial investment, and it keeps your resale up also.

Even if you don't use it often, it is sooooo worth having it when you need it.

So ... you're saying that if I purchase a $32,841 4WD I can drive it for X number of miles and turn around and sell it for $32,841.

Dude ... where were you when I bought my PreRunner in Virginia Beach ... what the fuck was I thinking?

    Oh, that's right ... I don't have a small penis .....

Let me read this again ...

"The thing about buying a Tacoma with 4 wheel drive is that you will never lose a dime paying for it. When you go to sell you will recoup that money 100%."

... what am I missing here? Perhaps it's the delivery.

Wow, who pissed in your Cheerios????? You know what I am saying, get a clue. The little extra you pay for 4 wheel drive will stay with the value. You should really go back and get your GED, you would have understood what I was saying.

There really is one in every crowd.

Well, normal 2wd 5-lug Tacomas are inexpensive and tough so they have a purpose. They are not pretending to be something they're not. But prerunners are pointless because why would you want the look of a 4wd without the ability? That's like being as handsome as a Ken doll but being hung like a Ken doll.

Op I thoroughly enjoyed my 2010 V6 PreRunner, had SR5 pkg, JBL sound, DCSB. It felt quicker and got better gas milage than my '14 TRD-OR, 4x4. Having 4WD is awesome, if you use it or think you may.

But if you are never going to use it, I did like the lighter feel and better mpg's from the V6 PreRunner. Some people say you can't tell the difference between PreRunners & 4x4's , but as someone who has had both I could tell a difference and feel the extra weight and drag of the 4WD hardware.

Personally, I would rather have a base or SR5 4x4 than to have a PreRunner TRD-Off Road, but that's one mans opinion. To get to our cabin in winter, the chain control will simply wave AWD and 4WD through the check points, where even if you have a TRD-OR PreRunner with the locker, you will need to chain up if chain control is in effect.

That may not be a big deal for most people, but it blows when it's 20 degrees out, and snowing and you need to get out of the truck to put tire chains on.

I'll join the chorus of folk recommending 4x4 if you live anywhere near wintery conditions (Manitoba = YES!). The security of being able to click (or shift) that vehicle into 4wd during a snow storm, alone, makes it worth the price. Plus the 4x4 will hold it's value better than the 4x2, thus you'll recoup some of the extra cost at trade in/resale (as noted above).

    Clazzio seat covers,

You really didn't state it that way ... and I was attempting to use a little humor.

I am sorry I overestimated yours.

    ... moving on ...

As an upstate New Yorker I love my prerunner and with good tires it's not bad at all, however toward the end of a harsh winter it gets old not having 4x4.
