Well, I guess you are using the generic faq you posted above. Thanks Oz! :)

What does it say in your actual maintenance manual for the truck?

Just looked this up on toyotas website, in the warranty/maintenance schedule. So i just snapped a pic of it, because it had my curiosity up as well. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412912708.540357.jpg

I was just there last week, the SA did say that I get 5 free oil changes as part of the Toyota care. I paid for my first though, as I wanted them to do the early 1500 mile factory fill dump.

They said the only way I could get an oil change done on Toyota, was if it were completed during their recommended interval.

Its a footnote reminding you to reset the maintenance required light on the dash. I scrolled down to find that as well, just to make sure it wasnt something i missed, lol

Well you are reading it wrong. Going by the manufacturers ( Toyota ) required intervals, on the 4.0 liter engine use regular Dino 5W-30 motor oil and change it every 5000 miles. They make no exception for synthetic oil in the 1GR-FE engine. Regardless of what the oil manufacturer says. That being said I couldn't care less when you change your own oil or if you change it at all.

It is a peeve of mine when something is quoted as fact and it is not.

If you read it, it says: " Only Toyota vehicles in which 0w-20 oil is mandatory ".

Vehicles in which 0w-20 is an option to 5w-20 (or 5w-30) will continue to require 5,000 mile change intervals, even if 0w-20 oil is used.

0W-20 / Synthetic oil is Not Mandatory nor is it recommended by Toyota in the 4.0Liter 1GR-FE Engine. I am sure it will not hurt or damage the engine, but Toyota doesn't recommend it or an extended change interval.

This is my source from Toyota. http://rav4world.com/pdf/T-TT-0005-10.pdf Please follow the link and observe where the chart says:

    Sounds right.

Mine starts to blink for a few seconds when you start the truck at about 4,500 miles.

Then it stays on at about 5,000 miles.

The real question should be, do you really want the dealer touching your car for something as simple as an oil change? It will likely be the new guy out of high school making $8 an hour that does the service. Something to think about...

    ^^^ That.

Efffff that oil changes are DIY, even if the dealer is offering them free of charge.

Exactly ;), and fyi, it also states "or 6 months, whichever comes first", so I always end up doing it way before 5k miles...
