I just picked up a new second car last night. 03 Celica GT is the main car, but I picked up a 93 Celica ST to be my work car. It needs a little body work, but I couldn't say no for $700.

Just got a 2006 Mazda3 Hatch 5spd for the Mrs a few weeks ago, she's a nurse, needs something reliable that will work day shift or night shift in the middle of a Canadian winter.

Looking at getting a manual WRX or STI though as a third car. Really want the 22b, but they are incredibly hard to get ahold of.

The wife drives a 2009 matrix awd. She bought it new in 2008, and have had zero problems with it, other than lately it has been burning oil. After a quick Internet search, I found out that toyota has a tsb out on the 2.4l engines on certain years, that are consuming oil. Most people that have had problems, found out too late, and there engines were seized up, and not in warranty. I knew the wife had bought an extended warranty when she got the car, So I inquired at the dealer, and they put it in for an oil consumption test, which is having them check it every 1000km. So they did this for every 1000km, for 6000km. Now, it varied every time we took it in to get it checked. It burned anywhere from virtually none, to .8 of a liter. And over the 6000km, it burned a total of 2.9 liters.
So now the test is over, and the dealer has to send results to Toyota Canada, and if they deem it burned too much oil, they put new pistons and rings in, not sure about valves and stuff. So I'm hoping that they say it excessive oil consumption, and rebuild the engine.
Does anyone think that 2.9 l is excessive? And have anyone had a similar experience with the oil consumption study? It seems really excessive to me. I can see maybe a liter in between oil changes, but not 3+. Now I've had old tercels that burned a liter of oil, almost every tank of gas, and they just kept on going, as long as you kept an eye on the oil. So I'm not super worried if they don't cover it, I'll just have to be diligent on checking the oil, cause it seemed to burn different amounts randomly.

Definitely excessive unless you're talking about the H series engines in the honda prelude lol.

    Hopefully they agree.

My wife just bought a 15 corolla LE, very nice car but that CVT transmission is a strange beast. The title just came in the mail today.

They are weird to get used to. Our Camry Hybrid had one and I grew to love that thing. It's nice to be in the power band the entire time the skinny peddle is pinned and for lower output engines that's a great combo.

Got a message on my phone yesterday from the dealer, that said that it didnt qualify for the warranty work, because it wasnt deemed excessive oil loss. Working 12 hour shifts, I haven't had a chance to call them back, and talk to them. They did say, that they would do another oil consumption test, if I wanted to, because they said it seemed to use more oil at the end of the test.
Now, I know the dealer is not the one who made the decision, so talking to them will be pretty useless I think. I will mention to them that I think it is excessive, and I will find out, exactly what Toyota thinks "excessive" is.
But it sounds like I will have to talk to Toyota Canada about this, more than the dealer.
    Anyone got any advice?
