looking for a nice pistol

im about to turn 21 and hunted most of my life so i know long guns and shot guns but im wanting to buy a nice 9mm or 40cal pistol for around 250 to 400 bucks something that will last at the ranch and thrown in the truck so help me out

 

For that price range your best bet is a glock man....and for a new one may be about 500. Best bang you can get for the buck without a doubt...competes with the H&K's, Berettas, S&W and everything else for a fraction of the price. I work with firearms so take my word for it...sure others will agree.

Figure out what you like.. Stop by stores, Talk to various people.

Best bet is to get a used Glock. A bit cheaper and most only have had a few hundred rounds through them. After putting over 10k rounds throug my G19, I can tell you that at a few hundred rounds it's not even beginning to break in yet.

I wouldn't go with .40 though. 9mm is fine. Or if you absolutely want something bigger, I say go .45 after 9mm.

I would take a look at the Taurus Millenium Pro series, I picked up a .45 cal for under 400 bucks. The new models have been reviewed well and for the money you can't beat them.

They have 9mm, and .40 cal as well. I had an XD 9mm pistol but sold it and purchased the Taurus, a friend of mine stated that he liked the feel and recoil of the Taurus more than the XD. It was very accurate as well, I am happy with the pistol and will be buying a new one for permanent vehicle carry.

yea man that sounds good im pretty much free anytime on the weekends and friday other than that im slammed with school junk i would mind shooting my .22 pistol i havnt shot it in maybe a year last pistol i shot was my dads super red hawk

It is really a nice pistol and breaks down as easy as the XD I had. Academy has them and is where I purchased mine. The grip is great and has an finger extension that helps on the magazine. Fully loaded the weight is fairly light compared to my last pistol too.

It is probably one of the smaller pistols that come in .45, if not the smallest.

Best thing you can do is ask friends what they have and shoot a variety.Or the guy that made the awesome offer to take you out , if you live near him do it.If you can't do that find a range that rents...its a cheaper mistake to blow 30-50 bucks on that then 300-1,000 and a production pistol.If you don't have these options the Glock , Springfield XD, and Smith and Wesson M&P are these best guns you can get for the money in the semi-automatic market.Pick the one that feels most comfortable and has the controls you want.DON'T RUSH this choice and most important NEVER , EVER settle for something simply due to cost....save if you have to.

Caliber , the one you can shoot quickest and most accurately , keep in mind though that as you become more familiar and train you will have less issues with faster recoil impulses.....first time I shot .40 cal I was surprised...now I pop it out no problem.

 

im thinking of the smith and wesson m&P it fit nice in my hand and i liked the sights

The best thing for you to do is shoot, shoot, shoot. The gun needs to feel good in your hand. You have to be comfortable with trigger pull and recoil. The only person here who can choose the right gun for you, IS you. Everyone has their favorites. They will all tell you to buy their favorite. As long as you go with a well known company, and the gun feels right to you, then you should be good. Go to the range, try a few models, and see what you like. There is a lot to choose from out there. Single action, double action, hammerless, polymer frame, steel frame. Choices galore. There is no universal gun. Good luck and happy shooting.
