Ford sells more trucks than GMC/Chevy combined as a brand:

    http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2013/12/usa-best-selling-trucks-sales-figures-november-2013-ytd.html

    http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2014/01/best-selling-pickup-trucks-december-2013.html

The F150 isn't quite as dominant as it used to be but it still outsells the GM twins combined. The rumor that together the twins outsell Ford is one of the many lies GM fanboys use to keep themselves warm at night .

Ford quit making the Lincoln LT for the US and Canadian markets in favor of a platinum trim level on the F150. It made sense to keep the F150 badge on even the highest trim level trucks since it was easier to talk someone up from a Lariat to a Platinum over trying to talk someone from a Ford truck to a Lincoln truck. My local Ford dealership is owned by someone I talk to regularly and he's told me Platinum sales have been much stronger than LT sales ever were.

You can't buy a new LT unless you're Mexican.

My local dealer received a Colorado in so I stopped to check or out after work today, no test drive though due to recall and they couldn't give me a timeline on when it will be ready. Overall I think the truck looks good, ground clearance is terriable and the spare is at an awkward angle to visable for my liking. No tie down system in the bed, I really enjoy/ use the one in my Tacoma along with the rear outlet. Dampened tailgate is very nice, I think the Tacoma cab doors are or solid sounding when closed. Engine bay, that v6 is shoved back in there and I dislike the coolant overflow in the back passenger side corner above the ecm. Oil filter looks like and easy change and can be done from the top with a cartridge style filter. Interior has a nice layout, gauges are a little boring compared to the Tacoma's. Seats are cool with the multiple fabric colors and front seats are OK for comfort. Rear seat is disappointing, I feel there is plenty of room but the back cushion does leaves much to be desired. Under seat storage in the Tacoma is much better. Overall the truck was OK and I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything when I jumped back in my Tacoma to head home.

Thinking logically, GM needs just two brands, Cadillac for luxury and Chevy for everything else. However, sales and marketing isn't logical. Remember, portions of our country still think obesity is hereditary while homosexuality is a disease. Some buyers still see GMC and Buick as half-assed premium brands and willing to pay a bit more for them, so these cars end up having better margins than if they were branded as Chevys.

When the economy had it's little blip, gm almost pulled the plug on gmc. They thought gmc owners would leave gm all together for the lincoln because gmc owners are too good for chevy. Or so i've heard.

But I agree, gm only needs two.

Even VAG effectively has two brands in the US: Audi for luxury and VW for mainstream. The other brands on the very high-end (Porsche, Lambo, Bentley) sell in relatively small volumes.

    VAG, giggity.
True. But, now the facts. VAG has been well managed and financially stable auto group for years making smart decisions, learning from their mistakes and conforming to the ever changing economy in many individual economy's.
GM has been on life support for years with the notion that a barrel of crude is still $23.00

I've always hated how some truck companies make certain cargo features "optional". IMHO every truck except the base should come bed lined and with full cargo management features. I can't believe how many trucks come without bedliner and don't even include any of the advertised cargo management features. The Colorado is a perfect example.

Technically, if you look at the TRD website's specs, our 4.0s make more torque if you run them on premium than that GM engine does (278 lb-ft over 270 lb-ft). Even on regular they're very close.

It has nothing like the Tacoma came with, there are locations throughout the bed that have plugs in them they you remove and install a tie down. All there gear on system they advertise is all additional if you want it.

I hope Toyota comes out with a hybrid Tacoma to compete. The Colorado is nice but I don't want a diesel and really want a hybrid.

A Tacoma that is similar to the hybrid highlander would be more than enough for my needs. An AWD, V6 hybrid system with a truck bed that gets 27 mpg would be perfect. Maybe Honda will step up with the next Ridgeline.
