Where on the TRD web site does it say this? Been looking for an official source for this information for a long time.

The 2007-2009 FJ Cruiser was spec'd for 278 lb-ft on 91 octane. However, it doesn't necessarily mean the Tacoma engine ECU is tuned the same way to take advantage of 91 octane.

There are unconfirmed reports that Honda is planning to be the first to install a hybrid system in the Ridgeline. Words are the electric motor will power the front wheels when it is needed. They are shooting for 30 mpg. Just don't know if this is with the V6 or I4 engine. I'm just glad it is getting a 7spd auto transmission though  Can't wait till it comes out and the 3rd gen Tacoma Win Win here

The governor is set at 112 mph to avoid exceeding the S speed rating of the Dunflops that come with the base and SR5 trims. Due to optimistic speedometer, actual speed it cuts out at is 109 mph if you measure with a more accurate device like GPS.

Yeah...the limiter is for the tires. But I'm right with you...I think I might have hit 80 mph a couple of times while merging. Top speed doesn't means shit to me. With age comes more wisdom. ;)

I'm not too comfortable driving a 4x4 pick up at triple digit speed. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. A car that is lower to the ground and has the aerodynamics for high speed is a different story.

The Taco is designed for it. The owner's manual even has instructions for it: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM04001U/pdf/sec_6-1.pdf
I've taken the Taco to 100 mph a couple of times (closed course) while running on the stock Rugged Trails, with my current lift. The truck is stable and doesn't wonder or float at all. The important element is smooth pavement.

Legal Highway speed in Idaho is 80 mph, borderline too fast for me in Tacoma.

It takes a little bit of assumption (that they mean both figures are on premium) to come up with what I said, but that's where it lists the original torque and horsepower spec.

The '05-'06 manual had a line saying 91+ octane gave increased performance. From '07 on it's not there. Maybe it had a tune for higher octane and they removed it?

On NH highways mine gets a tiny bit scary when passing at about 80. Sort of in the sense where you're more conscious of the fact that if you make a wrong move you may die.

Could be the roads up there. 80 is only 10 over there...they recently bumped the limits up to 70.

Could be the roads, my local stretch of 2 lane highway handles triple digit speeds just fine.

My '12 4 cyl 5 SPD 4x4 couldn't make it above 90 except down hill. Pedal to the floor in 5th on flat ground got you just to 90 mph, and that was it. Didn't have the horsepower to overcome the win resistance. It was pretty sad :D

I'm not doubting that the Tacoma can do triple digit speeds, I'm just not comfortable in any vehicle with a high center of gravity going that fast. If you have to make an emergency maneuver, there is a greater chance of flipping the vehicle than say in a Corvette. Of course, that is true at just about any speed. My Tacoma cruises along at 80 mph quite nicely, so maybe someday on an open road I'll see how it feels at 100.
