I still use my hands free. The TRD exhaust is not that loud.

If you don't like it, take it off and sell it. It takes maybe 20 mintues and if you are like me and kept the stock exhaust, you can go back to it.

I have to agree with what was said. Based on your inquiries, I don't think this muffler is right for you. No need to upgrade the stock one, no performance gains.
Since you are worried about the sound then you really should not waste your money. Buy something you really want instead.

I too was worried that it may be too loud for me especially after trying a Magnaflow that was way too loud in my opinion. But I put the TRD on last weekend and love it. It did sound loud at first, but even after a couple hundred miles it has toned out a little. I think sound is also something that you become accustomed to over time. I installed Flowmaster mufflers on other vehicles and thought what have I done, this is loud...and over time I didn't even notice. But if you're happy with the sound of your exhaust now and don't want any interior sound, I'd stick with what you have. You could also keep an eye out at the dealer and test drive one with the TRD also.

A nice sounding exhaust system can be nice on an vehicle whether it be a 4,6,or8 cylinder. And just because it is a pickup truck doesn't mean it is limited to only having a quiet stock exhaust. And unless your are sitting in your driveway bouncing your truck off the Rev limiter I doubt the neighbors will hate you and if they are that up tight then maybe they should move....

I already have about 4000 miles on my 2014 DCLB which I purchased in early August. I was a little wary of the TRD exhaust option going into it because of the "too loud" factor. But 4000 miles later I can tell you it is absolutely one of my favorite features. I sooo look forward to starting it up and hearing what someone else on here already referred to as that extra purr. The extra hp are nice but the slight growl is even nicer in my opinion. Yes, it's a V6 but it just SOUNDS tough when I'm driving it. I love it and I make no apologies for feeling that way. The sound inside is definitely not overwhelming to either myself or to my wife who was even less sold on the idea than me at the time I was debating getting it. As for blue tooth, I use it 100% of the time and I'm in sales so on the phone with clients a lot. I hear them fine and they hear me. I have the stock speakers and I like my tunes just as much as anybody. No complaints there either as the exhaust does not interfere.

    Things I need to tow.
I have an MBRP dual system that I really like, but this suggestion applies to all of the cat-back systems.

If you put on a system and it's too loud for you or has a resonance point that doesn't suit you, you can add a Vibrant Ultra-Quiet resonator in the head pipe to tone it down a bit. I did this on mine and it made just the difference I needed. They're stainless and are sold on eBay by various vendors.

Anyone have dyno runs showing this "extra purr" thing does anything besides noise? Mountainwolfpup says 10-15 hp?

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Yes, I did say that. Can't find the source right now.. it was from a Toyota publication. I was actually quite surprised. I was purchasing my SC at the time and ran across it. Figured, given the low price (relative to the SC costs) it was a good value for what it did.

Here is a performance chart from Toyota TRD (pretty unspecific about actual numbers), more of a "sales" flyer:

10-15 shetland ponies maybe. this exhaust is for making the truck sound more powerful, not actually doing so.

i argee with the above 10-15 HP is a joke! lol show me a dino to prove it. if it existed it would be all over the forum.

i just dont get it.. this is a mass produced tin can pickup truck with a rattle-ridden, work horse, mundane V6 (or 4!) engine, its not some flat six mezger motor or muscle car V8... ppl putting exhausts on a pickup truck is absolutely ridiculous... like what are you trying to prove to yourself? (or others?) its just lame...

you're telling me you're going to be like "OMG the 1GRFE sounds so sick!"

Sounds like to me you don't particularly like Tacomas. I see nothing wrong if someone likes more sound, whether its good or bad. If they like it is all that matters. I don't know why you seem so upset about it!

I put one on my 2013 Sport. Really like the sound. I installed it myself, took about 20 minutes. Could have done it quicker but I had 500 miles on the truck and was not rushing anything! Pretty simple job.

my tacoma serves a purpose, i dont particularly have a problem with it, its a tool to do a job, just like any daily driver that has to wear many hats, its nothing special... it beats driving a Ranger.

i just dont see the point of getting exhausts on pickup trucks. in fact, i could see putting a super charger on the engine before doing an exhaust. at least the SC would serve a meaningful functional purpose.

but i understand ppl have like different stuff... so to each their own, im just sayin'...
