10 mm combo wrench and either 10mm 1/4" drive or 3/8" drive rachet/shallow socket will save your a$$ on every Yota product...

Example ; today the "Battery God's " claimed the Lexus quiet and the neighbors watched in awe...one little 10mm combo and 5 minutes......battery was out ;) hold down clamp, two battery cables and even a stupid safe cover over the last hold down bolt...

Lexus even goes so far as to put one in their "trunk kit"....:D

A few shots from New Smyrna Beach tonight. Went out there for a family photo shoot. Wife wouldn't let me include the truck, so I took some of my own.

Success!!! pinion seal, nut, and diff oil changed, got some help from a friend and only took 2 hours and was possibly the easiest thing that I've done to my truck thus far

    OK,

Natives...what is the "rule" on wild boars ????

We were out at Caloosahatchee Regional park today and DAM...the back trails are "Hog Habitat" and if we had been dumb/brave enough could have been "up close & personal"

IF I am "carrying" and one of these "bacon wraps" decides to charge ???

    1) can I put it down WITHOUT making the local news ??

    2) are they worth the trouble /$$ for "baconizing" ;) ??

I am going to check with a local Ranger but wanted "Local insight" too...

AND I LOVE this STATE... Not 15 minutes from the house is Olde Florida; cattle, orange groves and beautiful county and state trails/parks plus that Caloosahatchee.....:D

unfortunately no pictures lol...I left my phone in the cab once we raised the lift up  and I didnt feel like lowering it down to get it haha :p

but its seriously simple....it took us 2 hours (in which about 30-45 min was us BSing lol) but here's my DIY guide so here it goes...lol

    - first things first empty the diff oil from the diff
    - put the truck in park and engage the parking brake, this will prevent the flange from spinning
    - remove the rear bolts on the rear drive shaft that connects to the flange
    - unstake the nut and remove the pinion nut (make sure to take note how many turns it took to come off and make sure you mark EVERYTHING so you can line it all back up. flange, pinion nut (the new one too), and the pinion shaft with a marker or something)
    - we used a gear puller (i think thats what it was) to remove the flange
    - then with a seal puller remove the pinion seal
    - lube/grease the new seal and place it over the pinion shaft
    - we used a 2x4 to seat the new seal into place (be gentle with seating it so you dont damage the new seal)
    - line the flange back with the pinion shaft (there is a spot where you stake the nut at for a better reference to line it back up) and we used the 2x4 again and a hammer to reseat the flange back into place (my buddy aslo put some grease/lube on the inside of the flange)
    - with the new marked pinion nut, tighten it to to how many turns it took to take the old one off (for me it was 10.5 turns) DONT FORGET TO STAKE THE PINION NUT AFTERWARDS!!!!! it will all line back up with the flange and pinion shaft and this will also finish reseating the flange
    - then rebolt the driveshaft back up and refill your diff with oil and poof! you're done pinion seal replaced and new diff oil

the main key parts of replacing the seal is making sure you mark everything so it will line back up, writing down how many turns your pinion nut was tightened to so you can get the preload correct and you wont F up your bearings and restaking the nut. and be sure to lube the new seal so you dont destroy that one lol and end up having to replace that one again haha

    no prob Nam!

i love that fact that people think that they know everything on facebook...some guy is telling me that my pinion nut is all wrong because "its not in specs" I used the new nut and tightened it down with how many turns it took to take the old one off...

nothing has changed with my diff, new oil, RPMs are the same, no sounds coming from the rear and no leaking. I really dont see what the issue is...the preload is the same. it took 10.5 turns to take the old nut off, so i tightened the new one 10.5 turns

so Jason...am I "incorrect" with how I replaced the new seal and nut? everything is back and pretty much damn near the same it was before I removed the nut and seal...

Yeah dude is being a d bag. I commented on it he is technically correct but alwas another way around doing a whole recheck of the preloads and it takes a dial guage inch pound Torque wrench. Ive set gears in a 14b ff and a d60hp and its a pain in the ass

yeah, there is always a better way of doing something...but when he freaks out about something like that...it's a little ridiculous. thats why I just stopped responding to him, not even gonna bother...the pinion nut appears to have the same preload...there's nothing wrong with anything as of right now. the seal isnt leaking anymore and my truck actually seems a little more responsive on the skinny pedal after changing the diff oil and fixing the seal. so why get so butt hurt over how I changed my seal lol
