For me there's 2 reasons I wouldn't go that fast on a regular basis. 1. It's illegal. 2. It's not a matter of whether the Taco can handle the speed. In a straight line...sure. But in an emergency situation where evasive action is required...that's what I want to avoid.

    Besides...at 80+ mph, I can't get that 29 mpg I'm used too....LOL!

Extreme speeds tend to attract the mods. IMHO I think that's enough conversation about 100 mph Tacoma's on the road.

FWIW I was romping a brand new 2014 F-150 this summer - <8k on the clock (with an unloaded boat trailer in tow) and she did 100 mph up hill no problem. But....that's all she would do. 100 mph flat (or downhill!!!). The Tundra I was following did 110 (I couldn't catch up!!!!)

Commence hating / safety bashing :oldglory:

^You probably exceeded the speed rating of the trailer tires.

I don't advocate excessive speeds or racing on public roads. For long-distance driving I'm usually at 65-70 on cruise control for decent fuel economy, even if the speed limit is higher.

The lennstang video shows 0-60 mph in about 8 sec, if the truck's speedometer is accurate.
This page has the timeslips, but requires an acct to view: http://coloradofans.com/forums/114-...-2015-colorado-new-england-dragway-video.html

It will be interesting to see what a magazine like Car and Driver can coax out of the truck. Car and Driver clocked the Taco at 6.9 sec in 2005 (DCLB) and 7.3 sec in 2014 (TRD Pro).

This weekend I visited a good friend of mine from high school who is a fellow car enthusiast, racer, and mechanic by trade. He has been a hard core Chevy guy for his whole life. I was always a Ford guy so we would give each other shit for years etc. When I saw him, after the normal catching up, I asked him about the new Colorado coming out and what he has heard. He said, and I quote: "You couldn't pay me enough money to drive one of those overpriced pieces of shit". That shocked me to hear a very respected (at least at his dealership) GM mechanic say that about their new golden child. He said that they are very overpriced for what they are, and that those engines, while they may make good power, break down constantly and he sees them in his shop all the time in the Acadias. Then, I figured I would fully disclose what was going on and told him that I had ordered a Tacoma and he was completely fine with that. Again that shocked me because he is so diehard Chevy. That has really confirmed my decision to go the Tacoma route.

I just figured with all of the positive threads about this wonder truck coming out I would try to balance it out just a little!

Now if my Tacoma would just come in already!

Welcome and the new Colorado looks nice but I would steer clear of it until GM (or if they ever) works out the bugs mostly.

I have heard the same from my diehard GM buddies, seems like more of the Tacoma guys are excited for them then the Chevy guys. If you go over to the Colorado forums they are not getting much attention, where as over here they are.

Congrats on the new truck, what are the specs on your new truck?

Part of me doesn't want to say what the truck is but the other part of me thinks, if you don't like it, well you know the rest. . . .

That being said, it is a Blue Ribbon Metallic DCSB 4x4 Limited. I know chrome gets bashed here but the heated pleather seats and nicer stereo were the decision makers. I actually like the fake leather more than real because it seems to hold up better and not crack as much etc. The only chrome that bothers me are the door handles but I can live with that without much issue :). The chrome "clad" wheels bothered me until I found out that every other manufacturer uses them too so even if I ordered a new F150, it was probably going to have them.

I'm trading in a 2008 Ford Sport Trac limited with the 4.6. Great truck but it squeaks a lot inside the cab due to the type of plastic they used, it has more air leaks around the windows than if the window was cracked open and I am starting to have issues with things going out at 80k. The Toyota isn't super luxury but I believe it will be better built and last longer. And, it just looks nicer!

Nothing wrong with chrome. Like I use to say to my buddies with their hot rods. "If it don't go... chrome it" :D

Most "Die-Hard-Bowtie" guys have a tough time looking at anything that isn't a full sized truck. No matter how good it is or isn't.

I've been in several Colorado threads. Eventually someone shows up to troll. Last one I was reading got locked because a few guys who traded there tacos in for silverados got there necks outta joint for little to no reason. I was simply trying to predict the future knowing the way past comparison threads have gone on here. Trust me, the ex-taco silverado fanboys will show up at some point.

Personally I think the OP is being honest. The Colorado has a lot to prove and it's engine doesn't have a very good reputation.

Oh, I'm sure he is , but if I wanted to know about the Colorado I'd most likely go to Chevy/Colorado/S-10 forum...

But I WILL say that my brother has a 2001 S-10 w/4.3 & that fucker gets with it when on the skinny pedal & I'm comfortable saying that it'd pretty much smoke a 2nd gen 4.0

    NOW let the shit fly....haha...:crapstorm:

We just don't know about the Colorado yet because it has to be out a while before any problems show up. I disagree about the 3.6-liter engine though - it's a good engine. That's the standard engine in the Cadillac XTS, optional in the CTS and ATS, as well as a long list of other models. They did a warranty extension program on the timing chains for excessive wear in some versions but that's been corrected. It's a very well-refined engine that has many versions around the world. If anyone is interested the link is to an article that traces the development of the engine.

It sounds like a pretty good "car" engine.....
