I think my shop is being watched by thieves.

So the other day we had a trash can that we dont keep food in that weighs around 75 pounds moved 3 feet in front of the door. Friday morning my dad was outside doing yardwork and noticed a truck stopped in the road with a guy looking at the shop and the small door was opened to it. He backed into the driveway then I guess saw my dad and took off squealing tires.

What can I do?
Im looking at maybe the foscam stuff if I can afford it and get one that motion detect and send me emails.

They have deer cameras that do in less than 60 seconds but they are about 400.

Just for info my atv was stolen last year parked behind it with a chain on it outside. Its detached by about 75 feet from the house and I dont believe our wifi works down there but it might have a weak signal if it does.

 

Already have a .357, the back windows were made to skinny for people to fit through, and locks on the door and garage door. No padlocks just a locking knob and deadbolt.

 

Leave a jerry can full of gas and lots of sugar beside your shop. Or diesel and water.

Failing that, paint can on a swinging rope, marbles, and tar and feathers.

 

So put sugar in the gas haha. Also I have a pretty nice 80s el camino down there but they'd have a hard time getting it and it has a 4 speed with an odd patern shifter.

 

Man, I know the feeling! I ended up putting cameras up and finally these guys were caught. Not stealing from me this time, but with some of my possessions.
There is nothing worse than liars and thieves!

One thing that could help. Get some plywood scraps and drive hundreds of nails through they. Put them nails up anywhere they could break in. They might see them but if they don't, there not stealing that night. Lol

Nah I need a bear trap. But weve got a cheap motion detector alarm down there now. I think it was from harbor freight.

I knew a guy who ran electrified cattle fencing at knee level just inside the door of his shop to stop a couple of drunks from busting into his shop again. I don't know if it's worked or not though.

Good luck man. I can't believe the crime issues you guys have down in the USA.

 

We do use the shop a good bit like every other day, but these are all good ideas. Also I think it would happen in the day time.

Anybody used a foscam?

 

Just saw an alarm at harbor freight with 2 night cameras and a viewing screen for 60$. You might need to buy a few depending on how big your shop is.

 

Might get the foscam instead, its only one but cost about the same. Dont really truct harbor freight electronics to much either, not $60 worth of trust lol.

 

Harbor freight great for one time uses. Other than that its a hit or miss. Been there done that. Buy quality and it will last.

 

Why not a legitimate alarm/security system?

 

Cost alot.

My friend install security cameras and said each one is about $100 a piece IF YOU HAVE DVR. I dont have a dvr box which is about 500 or so to buy outright.

 

So does a crime.

Least you could do is add dummy cameras, add signs or put in a device that plays random sounds or people talking so that it makes someone think twice, wondering if it is occupied.
